Did I Make A Mistake ???

i have been wanting a "cranking" rod for a while now and finally made up my mind to get one yesterday. i did some reading on the net about which one was the best for around $100 budget , pros and cons etc. i heard a lot of good things about bass pros crankin sticks so that is what i decided on. when i got there i found several other brands of crankbait rods and started to compair them to one another. the bass pro crankin stick felt kinda stiff even in the medium light version.

the kvd quantum felt nice but they were out of the 7ft model. what i finally came home with is the american rodsmiths david fritz 7ft crankin series in medium action for $80. it just felt the best to me and seemed to have the forgivingness in the tip to keep bass from throwing a crankbait. after i got home though i noticed that this rod is TOTALLY glass. my question is..  did i make a mistake by not getting one of the stiffer rods with graphite? does the graphite make that big of a deal when crankin w/fluorcarbon line? if i did get the wrong rod let me know because i can still take this one back. it is still in the plastic wrap etc. thanks in advance for any help!

Agreed that is a very nice rod for the price. Keep it if it feels more comfortable than the Crankin Stick.

A lot of folks like to use glass rods for crankbaits.  They feel like it helps inprove the hookup ratio.  I would keep it.  It sound like what you need.

The mistake is even thinking about getting graphite for cranking It is a great rod for the money.

OK, let me throw in a question.  Why do most of you prefer glass for crankin?  The consensus seems to be that it is preferred but what are the characteristics of a glass rod that make it so?  Not trying to hijack the thread, just get a little more info.

In whichever way a bass might take your crankbait,  you don't "feel" it as quickly.  The fish gets hooked up before you can set the hook too soon and pull the bait away.  That is the theory.  The rods flex also plays in your favor so the bass has a harder time throwing a treble hook bait.
