low_pro Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Really I have two questions... 1. Regarding action, what does "T" stand for? I have an Extreme 7' Heavy and there is a "T" on the end of the model #. Does this indicate the action? I also have a 6'6" Bionic Blade that ends in S which I am assuming means slow. I just want to make sure the last letter relates to the action on BPS rods. 2. This might get complicated (get your popcorn muddy). This is a serious question looking for a serious answer... please no bashing. I am by no means a fisherman for $$$ (at least not yet). What is the advantage of spending $250+ on a rod? Is there an article on here regarding modulus count and the difference in weight, sensitivity, and cost effectiveness? I was curious if the G Loomis and the other high dollar rods are THAT much greater than say an Extreme or Pro Qualifier? With the extreme running $59 and the Qualifier running $79, I would think it would be a great combination of price and performance? How much better does it get? ARE YOU BUYING THE WARRANTY FOR THE ADDITIONAL $$? Also, with a higher modulus count doesn't it get more brittle? What is a happy medium? Say IM8 or HM60? Both of these are pretty light and sensitive and so far IM8 is pretty durable. Again, I am just looking to gain some knowledge. I completely agree that all rods are NOT created equal and I would never compare an Ugly Stick to a G Loomis!! I would just like to know where price and performance can meet in harmony! Thanks for any guidance Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted April 3, 2008 Super User Posted April 3, 2008 Price=What you are willing to spend on a rod is all that really matters when it comes to price. Performance=What works best for you or what is a Luxury for you. Most people would consider the higher end rods a Luxury to use. You could get by with less, or you could spend the money to use a Luxury item. I know that is kind of not the answers you are looking for. But consider this. I spent $400 on a Steez rod. Is it better than a $350 GLX, or a $200 Cumara, or a $130 Crucial, or a $60 BPS rod? Well what is your definition of better. What does a rod have to offer for you to consider it worth the price? Is it the modules, guides, reel seat, handle, weight or looks? I's all pretty relative when you think about it. I caught fish for many years on Lightning Rods from Wal-Mart. In fact, I thought I was in the Big Leagues because I was using them. Now I probably won't catch any more fish with a rod that was 10x more expensive. But for me. My Steez was worth every penny. I absolutely love everything about it. I don't know how my Steez compares to a GLX. I have never used a GLX. But I know that I am very happy with my Steez. The price wasn't an issue. If it was, I may have bought a St. Croix Legend, or another Carrot. But I wanted what I consider to be an enthusiast rod. My ramblings may not have made much sense, but I will leave you with this. I can get from point A to point B on a bike, or I can drive a Geo Metro, or I can drive a BMW. Is the BMW THAT much greater than the GEO? It depends on who is driving it. It also all depends on how much you want to spend. There is a difference in performance, but there is also a bit of Luxury involved. Quote

I suggest you go back to their site and check carefully, but from what I can see, T = Trigger, S = Spinning, C= Casting. Other manufacturers use those letters as well. Quote
