IneedAnewScreenName9886691 Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Dick's sporting goods ran an ad in our paper today. Quantum 'Escalade' reel with 7.0:1 G.R. 1/2 price. Regular $120.00 I bought 2 for $59.98 each. I haven't used them nor heard of that model - could be some sort of Dick's special deal? Looked very similar to a Code. Anyway, just a heads up, kind of like buy one get one free! Happy Releasing, H.G. Quote
Ballpark Frank Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Thanks H.G., I might have to make a trip in the morning. The difference in the Code and Escalade is the braking system, I think. The Code uses the Quantum ACSII centrifugal and the Escalade uses the Dynamag magnetic system. Quote
G3 Fan Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 I'm pretty sure the Escalade is another one of those Dick's exclusive items. I haven't seen one out of the package. I get a little sceptical with the Dick's exclusive items. They always seem to be on sale for about half of the "regular" price. With the Quantums for instance would you pay the $120.00 for one of those when you can get an Accurist PT for $10.00 more? I'm sorry Hydrilla I am not trying to bust your bubble and I am sure those reels are worth the $60.00, I just get steamed when it comes to the advertising practices of these big retailers. Quote
ghost Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Look at the 2008 KVD reel from BPS, it's the same reel but different bearing count. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_98401_100001001_100000000_100001000_100-1-1 I really like the looks of the new KVD & Quantum Code reels, I wish they would come out w/ a left hand model. I would buy either in a heartbeat. Quote
IneedAnewScreenName9886691 Posted March 17, 2008 Author Posted March 17, 2008 No worries G3. I can see them totally doing that! We will see how they hold up! I am taking them with me on a tour of the South next month. Happy Releasing! Quote
MA_Bass Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 I bought one of the bait casters and think that it is well worth the $60 that I paid for it but do not see it as being worth more than $80-$100. I gave it its first test last night. Casting blows away the $40 Shimano Crestfire that I replaced. The magnet adjustments were consistent and even. I have found that the casting adjustments for other reels in this price range ($60, not the $120 "retail") tend to be more off/on than an actual adjustment. The drag seemed smooth, but the only things I fought were a couple of snags, so the jury is still out. I also own another Dick's special- a Quantum Inferno #40 spinning reel that I am happy with. HomersTomaco Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Yea... hopefully you dont really think you are getting a $120 reel.. because you arent. You are buying a $60 reel, and thats it. Those are just a cheap house brand reel that they can say the retail price is whatever they want. That reel has been "on sale" from the $120 price since it first came out. Quote
joshmb1999 Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 I have one of dicks quantum specials - the quantum inferno spinning reel and i am not very happy with it. it's loud and not smooth. jmho Quote
FishGuitBeer Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 I have one of the Inferno spinning reels and I have no complaints. As far as the Escalade goes, it's the same machined body as the Code, got enough bearings, I might grab one! I have Quantum reels that have lasted 10 years and I can't parts from Quantum anyway. If a 65.00 ree lasts me 4 or 5 years, whats not to like? The fact that I don't have the status of owning the 120.00 status reel? Quote
buzzbaitfool12 Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 not trying to hijack thread but the kvds I bought for 79 at bps are freaking awesome.. Quote
MA_Bass Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 One thing I noticed with my Inferno and Escalade reels is that the finish work is very lacking. On each reel the seems between the casting are very rough. They made a minimal effort to clean them up. Its not horrible, but it si noticeable. One of the ways they chose to cut costs. That being said the mechanis seem smooth. Quote
Noboat Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 I bought a Dick's exclusive Okuma apinning reel.... It lasted one trip to Canada. I sent it back to Okuma and they replaced nearly all of the internal parts. Quote
