Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted February 18, 2008 Super User Posted February 18, 2008 Does anybody own, or has anybody tried this reel? It is the reel Daiwa is making exclusively for BPS. It's alot of reel for $119.99. Twelve bearings, swept handle, one piece aluminum frame, Magforce-Z automatic magnetic anti-backlash system. It seems like no corners were cut to make such an affordable reel. Falcon Quote
strick9 Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Hey Falcon, I was in BPS the other day and I checked this reel out. It seems like a very solid reel and seems very smooth. I am in the market for a new baitcaster and am interested in this one. My biggest issue is that I have always used reels with centrifugal cast control and I'm not sure about the magnetic controls on the Diawas. Or I can pick up another Quantum Energy PT for $10 more than the TD-Pro with the rebates from Quantum and the reel trade in at the Classic. I too would like to hear from anyone with this reel and anyone that can compare the two different braking systems. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted February 19, 2008 Author Super User Posted February 19, 2008 Thanks for your response strick9. I have always been an Abu garcia owner. I love my Revos and Records. After seeing the TD-Pro in the BPS catalog I thought I'd take a look at another brand. I heard a guy refer to the TD-Pro as the "Other Steez". I'm going to the BPS classic and check it out, and if it looks and feels as good as it looks I'll probably buy one. Falcon Quote
sal669 Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 I played with it at BPS and it feels smooth and solid; a lot of reel for the money. I almost bought one, but I decided to wait a bit to accumulate some more BPS reward points. I'd like to know the opinion of somebody who "field tested" it ! Tight lines Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted February 19, 2008 Author Super User Posted February 19, 2008 Hey Sal, hold off buying yours. When the ice melts I'll have you over my house and you can try mine first hand. I decided to get mine when the BPS Classic starts. The drive from Troy to Chesterfield Twp. isn't too far. Falcon Quote
michbass Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 Looking forward to hearing about it. Does look like a lot of reel for the price. Quote
MaxumBass Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 My brother bought one at the Classic. He tried it last weekand says its great! Easily outcasts anything he owns. Thats all I know about it but it sounds like a good deal to me. JimK Quote
michbass Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 Hey Maltese Falcon, How is the ice doing on St.Clair? Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted March 6, 2008 Author Super User Posted March 6, 2008 I got mine last Friday at the classic. I spooled it up and went out to my canal and started casting weightless plastics. (I got some strange looks from my neighbors) So far I'm VERY pleased with casting distance. At this point, I'd have to say it's a WINNER. It seems to cast as good as my Revos. I'll know more in the spring. Falcon Quote

hdbass Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 picked one of these up on sale a bps but have not been able to test it out yet. Practicing in the yard it really seems smooth and I can get more distance than my other reels. Quote
