jjbassjj Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 i have a 6'6" medium power moderate fast shimano compre. Yesterday somethign terrible happened:[ My line got caught in the trolling motor..while my buddy was reeeling in about 4 or 5 pounder. The line took my rod with it and the rod got all up i nthe trolling motor. It broke off about 3 inches of the rod. So now its a 6' 3". Do you guys think i should make this my new topwater rod(it is equipped with a 7.1:1 Extreme) Quote
set_the_hook Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 the compre rods have a lifetime warranty. i would bring it back to where you bought it and have it replaced. a 6'6 rod is still short enough for topwater. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted March 23, 2008 Super User Posted March 23, 2008 Not only is the rod shorter but the action and power has now been drastically changed. If you wanted a rod this size then you would have bought one instead of the original. You can use ANY rod to catch fish on as long as your are comfortable but if you ask me, your rod is ruined except for maybe parts or a frog gig. Quote
SCBASS Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 You should just be able to go to your nearest Shimano dealer and do an over the counter exchange. I have never had a problem getting a new rod even if it was obviously my fault. Also I have never brought in a receipt or the warranty paperwork. The worst that can happen is they say no. Good luck! Super User .RM. Posted March 23, 2008 Super User Posted March 23, 2008 I agree with Bassn Blvd 100%. Taking 3" off of the tip area really changes a rod. The Action/Taper gets stiffer, Stiffness/Power increases, Line Rating (lower range increases) (upper range slight increase), Lure Rating increases lower range increases) (upper range slight increase), tip top size increases, Blank Weight slight decrease. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!! Quote
