I am trying to decide on a crankbait rod for this year.  I have been using a St. Croix Legend Elite EC70MF graphite rod, but it seems like more and more people are going to glass so I am considering getting a Lamiglass SR 705R rod.  What do you guys think who have fished both.  What do you prefer and why?  The deepest I will probably go is 16ft or so, so no real deep divers, at least that is what I plan on as of now.  Thanks for any advise.

My main soft plastics rod is the ES70MF. I also have the EC70MHF. Both of these rods and your EC70MF have a firm tip. The Lamiglas SR705R has a soft tip and is what I consider the ideal rod for all big treble hook lures and especially deep divers.

p.s. It's currently on sale at Cabela's

The 705 R is an awesome rod! Where this rod really shines is throwing big rattle traps and big body cranks regardless of depth. It also can double a big spinnerbait rod.

And Lucky Craft Pointer 128, Mattlures Baby Bass and everything heavy!

16' is a deep diver.

Go with glass. The longer the better.

So would you guys suggest 7'6" model instead of the 7' if I go with the glass?

If you're throwing DD22's and DT16's on a regular basis, yes.

I prefer glass for any fast retrieve lures like cranks, spinners, and topwaters. An overlooked, good crankin' rod are the Ugly Stik' Lites.

Soft plastic rods call for stiffer, fast graphite rods. I like the Rapala series for that.

That 705 R loads up well for casting deep cranks such as the DD22 or DT16. Nothing wrong with the 7'6" either.
