SV1000 Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 I want to set up some baitcasters, probably 3 for channel cats but they will be used for bass 90% of the year. I had a 4600C years ago that I really liked. First, I am looking for a good website listing Ambassadeur model numbers but have not found one. Second, what are the recommended Abu reels and which models should I steer clear of? I can bass fish equally well with a round reel or a low pro because I don't palm the reel. Quote
Super User .RM. Posted March 18, 2008 Super User Posted March 18, 2008 All of Garcia's round reels are proven work horses. As far as reels you should stay away from, that would be personal preference on the combo your fishing cats with. My cat setups are 1 red 1980 5501C, and, 1 black 1985 5501C, all setup on 8' Quantum big cat rods... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!! Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted March 18, 2008 Super User Posted March 18, 2008 I use the same abu's for bass and cat. I just change out the spools with different line. Quote
Lon Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 It's all I've used for bass fishing for awhile now.....The C4's while only having a 6.3.1 retrieve pick up a TON of line. And they don't have enough power for crank fishing IMO. I like the C3's for everything except jigs/worms in which case the C4 is nice because of the fast pick up.... Quote
0119 Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 There are a few sites that list the model configurations for all Abu's ever made. I dont have the address's anymore but one place you could start with is the floridasurffishing.com site. There are alot of Abu experts there. The C was replaced by the C3 and C4. The number designates the number of bearings. To tell you the truth, I miss my 4600C3's. So simple, there isnt any repair or replacement you cant do yourself. I have caught Channel Cats up to 13lbs with no trouble on a 4600C3 and a 4500C. I would stick to that size if 90% of your fishing will be for bass. Quote
