bronzeback01 Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Has anybody tried ardent spinning reels ? How do you like them? I looked at their baitcaster and it felt kind of cheap, What do you think? Quote
Al Wolbach Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 I had the opportunity to play with a prototype and did not care for it, however most of the faults I had with it are supposed to be corrected in the production model. I have not yet seen a production model. I have purchased five of the baitcasting reels and really like them. Two of these reels are in their third year of tournament fishing. They excel in casting distance, especially with light lures and the drag is very smooth. I did have a problem with one of the baitcasters but it was corrected in just a few days by Ardent. I had a knob come off a handle and they sent a new handle to my home within just a few days. Otherwise the reels have been flawless.................AL Quote

I actually have one of these "pieces of junk" and it compares nicely to all my revos. Please enlighten me as to how you were able to decide this was a piece of junk just by looking at it? Must be a Shimano owner ;D : Quote
bronzeback01 Posted March 15, 2008 Author Posted March 15, 2008 I think it's a piece of junk because the rotor had a lot of play and the handle had a lot of play too. The thing that really turned me off was the little plastic nipples sticking out of the side cover and rotof ,(example) when you break the pieces off a model kit and you have to get an exacto knife to trim that little nipple of plastic off , that's why i think it's a piece of junk. I hope i've enlightend you. Quote
tkite16 Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Alton Jones can give you $500,000 reasons Ardent reels are just as good as any other. I'm not saying there better than Garcia,Diawa or Shimano but they are there equal. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted March 15, 2008 Super User Posted March 15, 2008 More pro's and con's please , but keep it civil. Quote
bronzeback01 Posted March 17, 2008 Author Posted March 17, 2008 I thought i'd give the ardent spinning reel another chance so i went back to the store and had the salesman open 6 reels (all he had) to see if the one that i originally looked at was just a fluke , but it wasn't they all had play in the handles and rotors and the nipples on the side cover . SO! i won't be buying an ardent spinning reel anytime soon. Quote

You'd be doing the whole fishing community a huge favor if you could take and post some decent quality pictures of the reel, expecially with the side cover off so we can see the brake. I can't find any decent pictures of this reel anywhere on the net and I'd like to see one. Quote
Bud Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 While I don't have a Ardent Spinning reel I do have a Ardent bait casting reel. It is on par with any of the top of the line reel and better than most. And this is from a SHIMANO fan Quote
bronzeback01 Posted March 17, 2008 Author Posted March 17, 2008 their baitcasting reels are pretty nice it's their spinning reels that need work. Quote
