St Croix Avid or Carrot Stix LTX???

Looking to getting a baitcast & spinning rods from these 2 mfg's.  

Price, they are not too far apart.  

Components, which one has the better?

Graphite blank, which is lighter & more sensitive?

Split grip or full cork grip, does one design have more sensitivity than the other?

If you have both rods, which of the 2 do you like better?

Never held a Carrot stix.

Own a 6'8" AS68MXF spinning model and LOVE it.

Very very light and the blank is very strong.

Lifetime warranty on the Avid.

Excellent comparison from a man that has tried both. I think the biggest decision might be the split grip. You better try it out for yourself. Some like them a lot, but they are not for everyone.

I don't have either a Carrot stick or and Avid, but if I was going to buy one, it would be the Avid. I have never heard a negative comment about Avid rods and the St. Croix has been in business a long time which means the "Lifetime Warranty" means something.

E21 on the other hand is a start up company. I googled "Thermalon" to find out about this material and was directed to E21's SEC 10K filing. E21 is primarily a golf club shaft manufacturer with "New Technology". The fishing rod side of their business is even newer and seems to be more of a "sidseline". I have seen many golfing enterprises with "new technology" go out of business in a short amount of time. (Anybody want to buy a set of Dave Pelz FeatherLite golf clubs that cost twice as much as Pings in 1985?). According to the filing, the company has no employees, only consultants (independent contractors) for management. Therefore, they must be contracting out their manufacturing. The "lifetime warranty" is only going to be for the lifetime of the rod or the company, whichever lasts the longest.

I bought a Carrot Stick after holding it at a fishing expo.  I have the 7'1" LTX MH and I use it for deep diving cranks.  I cannot testify to the warranty but this rod is so light that it might be ruining my rod collection.  I have several Loomis GLX and IMX rods, a few Dobyn's Champion Extreme's and a few Avids, but NONE of them are as light as my Carrot Stick.  I can cast with this rod all day and I find myself secretly praying that the fish are on the deep diving bite just so I can use this rod.  I have it matched with a Shimano Metanium XT.

I still love my Loomis rods and my St. Croixs but they just don't feel as good as they used to thanks to the Carrot Stick.

I own four Avid Rods but never a Carrot Stix, of course there is a reason I use Avid. These are great rods, the Crankbait Model is the ebst I ever used for crankbaits.

A lot of this goes with personal preference....both are great rods.

I have 3 Avids ( 2 of them customs ) and the E21 LTX M parabolic.

I take split grip over conventional cork handles any day. The handle of the E21 is the most comfortable that has been on my hands. The weight reduction is just unbelievable, lighter than my Steez MH. Even E21 is a new company in the tackle business, his designer has more ICAST Best of the Show than any other rod builder or company... ever.

Both have life time warranty, E21 is cheaper.

Thermalon has been around for a while, you will find it on the Airrus Ultra XL, another ICAST winner of the same designer.

I'm just curious because I'm considering the Carrot...

I use my GLXs for jigs and texas rigged plastics and I use my Carrot stick for deep cranks so for my uses they are not really comparable.

That being said the Carrot is way lighter and easier to handle all day long. I have not used my Carrot Stick for jigs or texas rigs so I cannot speak to it's sensitivity for these tactics. The GLX is a VERY sensitive rod and you will no doubt be very happy with it but it is not as light as a Carrot Stick.

Keep one thing in mind on rod weights... the slower the rod, the lighter the blank if all other things are equal. Take any blank of any make, model and material and weight the fast vs. the mod or mod fast and the slower blank is lighter since the butt section is either smaller (or thinner) to slow the action.  (slower taper = slower action = lighter blank)

Not suggesting anyone is posting misleading info here, just hoping to clear any misunderstandings before they get started. We have had a lot of people compare the e21 cranking rods to fast & X-fast action graphite rods of other brands and that's apples to oranges from the start.

I've decided to get the 6'9" MH baitcast rod & the 7' Medium spinning rod.

I like what the specs are on the b/c rod, it seems that this will be a good all around rod.  I seem to see more talk about the parabolic b/c rod than the other models, is that what the Carrot Stix b/c rod is best for, the parabolic cranking rod?

I don't recall any reviews on the other baitcast rod models or the spinning rods.

Are the Pac Bay lite guides any good?  You think I'll be able to use braided line w/ these guides?

I'll probably pick up an Avid b/c & spinning rods later on, to check out for myself what all the talks about these rods.

Have you looked at a Powell. Their at the same price range as the Avids and Carrots. Seen some last weekend at Cabelas...probably the nicest constructed production rod I've seen.

The Cabelas close to me doesn't have the Powell rods...yet, don't know if they'll carry them.

I did see a Powell rod a few months back & noticed the split grip rear grip was much smaller than other split grip rear grips.  It felt nice, but I was not looking at buying any rods at that time.  Also by the next time I went back to this store, the Powell baitcast rod they had was sold.

Carrot Stix 100% Awesome rod in my opinion. But it depends on if you like the split grip or not. If you dont then the Avid is great
