HOIST-N-HAWGS Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Looking for advice on a good quality crankbait rod in the $200 range. I'm more comfortable with 7' and up. Considering Gloomis and would appreciate your reviews and suggestions. Thanks! Quote
Shadcranker Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 I have three Powell CB series rods in graphite. My favorite is the 706 CB model for deep cranking. If you like split handle designs, you would really like it. Around $170. I have a Loomis cranking stick, and I like it also. I just favor the Powell design. Quote

Considering Gloomis and would appreciate your reviews and suggestions. Thanks! take a look at the CBR 843. This is my rod for cranks. One thing I will say, if you throw cranks heavier than 5/8 oz, you may want to look at the 845. FD Quote
WCCT Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Take a look at the Rogue crank bait line. It features a graphite blank, that blends into glass in the upper third of the blank. It is incredible. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 13, 2008 Super User Posted March 13, 2008 If you are looking for a powerful rod for all BIG treble hook lures and especially deep divers, the Lamiglas SR705R is the rod for you! Designed by 2007 Angler of the Year, Skeet Reese, this the ultimate glass rod: http://www.lamiglas.com/prod_indiv.php?id=38 I have mine matched with a Shimano CTE200GT (5.0:1). 8-) Quote
HOIST-N-HAWGS Posted March 13, 2008 Author Posted March 13, 2008 Thank you genltlemen. I'm leanining towards the Gloomis or Lamiglas Quote
fathom Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 cbr 845 is the most versatile...in my hands, the 843 is a tad wimpy...the 847 for poes, fatfrees and dd22's. Quote

I was torn between the Lamiglas and the Powell. You cant go wrong with either one of these rods. Enjoy. Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 There are two crankbait rods I use. I use SMR814C-CB for hard jerkbaits and shallow & medium depth running crankbaits. For larger and deep running crankbaits along with lipless crankbaits, I use the CBR906C. I am very pleased with these rods and they don't have the weight of most glass crankbait rods. I also don't like the real moderate action of traditional crankbait rods. These rods suit my needs perfectly (Disclaimer: this is my opinion only). Quote
HOIST-N-HAWGS Posted March 13, 2008 Author Posted March 13, 2008 I was thinking the Lamiglas SR705R had every feature I was looking for............................................................................................ until I saw the color PUKE YELLOW?????????????????????????? Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwww! Why oh why do they do that? :'( Quote
djmax22 Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Below is a link to lamiglas 705 R. It has the same specs as the SR model, but not in that PUKE yellow color. http://www.***.com/descpageRDCLAMIGLAS-LCPROFG.html Quote

HOIST-N-HAWGS Posted March 13, 2008 Author Posted March 13, 2008 First let me offer my sincere apologies for not being thorough enough in my thoughts, description and needs prior to posting. At first it was going to be strickly for deep diving cranks and a 1oz wake bait with the idea of purchasing another rod for swimbaits up to 3oz. For such baits as Mattlures,Rago Rat and the new 6"Huddleston. After following a few of the links and suggestions you've offered I believe I found one rod I can use for both applications. G-Loomis-Swimbait-Rod. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0053520122712a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH&returnPage=searchresults1.jsp&QueryText=swimbait+rods&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=swimbait+rods&noImage=0 Without out your help I would have ended up buying two different rods and reels, spending another $400 to $500. I can't thank you enough! With that said, who wants to take the credit for saving me big $$$$$$ and where should I send your finders fee? ;D Quote
badbob Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Hi, I bought the new Shimano Cumura 7' med action. I have not caught many fish on it yet but I like it. It feels so well balanced in the hand..... Thanks, Bob Quote
HOIST-N-HAWGS Posted March 14, 2008 Author Posted March 14, 2008 I think someone mentioned using a link from this site when ordering through Cabela's and a percentage of the money would be givin back to this site. How would I go about doing this? Thanks, Paul Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 14, 2008 Super User Posted March 14, 2008 Just punch on the Cabela's banner or go to "Advertisers" in the top section of "Tackle." 8-) Quote
