Narrowed it down to these.   How much difference is there going to be between the Max series and the Revo S?  If there isn't a big difference, I'd rather just save some of my money and get the Black max or the Silver max.   What do ya'll think?

I'd pick the S. I just bought two of them and am impressed with the way they cast. WOW! I think they are very much the equal of the more expensive SX and STX.

I'd pick the S over the Max series if only because it has an aluminum frame and handle sideplate cover, whereas the Max is polymeric (some kind of plastic).  I'm not saying there is anything inherently wrong with the polymeric frame.  But aluminum is a known quantity and is the standard.

They are both good reels. If I were you, I would find a store and put your hands on them. If possible place them on a rod and see which one feels better. I have both and like both. My daughter has two Revo S's than she loves. I think the aluminum frame Revo will last longer and give a better service life. But if you decide on the Max, get the Silver, the click drag is worth the $10.

I dont own any of the Promax series but i do own some revos and they are the only reels i use. I would say spend that 100$. I believe you get what you pay for. If you are really tryin to save money which i completely understand then look up the topic about the Promax there was alot of positive posts about it. Good luck with whatever you pick.

Agreed I own a silver max , and 8 revo's . In the long run the revo feels like it will hold up better than the silver max but the drag on the silver max feels the same as the revo s.

At the very least get the silver max.

I like the ProMax more than my S but I know that the Revo will probably last longer because of all the little differences. So I would go for the Revo S.

Why do you like the ProMax more? The value?

To the OP: In another week at BPS, you can trade in some old reel and get $20 off that Revo S. I plan on doing this and while I was over there today, I got alot of input from the fishing salesguy about them both and I concluded that the S is better just in overall feel. It was very smooth, solid, something that I think would last a while.

I like the ProMax more because it has a bigger frame so it is much more comfortable in my hands. Plus like you said, cheaper, just as smooth as a S, and almost matches my Carrot Stix.

But the bigger frame is the main reason.

The Silver Max is a great reel and it's really smooth casting and cranks as quiet as any other reel out there. Only time will tell how the new Max reels hold up but I'm not worried about any reel made by Garcia ;) Love the clicking when setting the drag too. Mike
