BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted March 1, 2008 BassResource.com Administrator Posted March 1, 2008 For those of you that use flourocarbon almost exclusively, what brand do you use and why? Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted March 1, 2008 Super User Posted March 1, 2008 I don't use it exclusively, but my choice is Transition, because I can see it well. I'm color-blind, and some lines are difficult for me to see against the water. Tansition shows up nicely against the water. I've had none of the problems with this line that some others have "reported". An SD jam knot seems to work best for me, with this line. Cheers, GK Quote
Bass XL Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Ive been using Yo-Zuri Hybrid all last year and all this year. RW got me hooked on it. I really dont know the exact reason why this brand, but it's good stuff at a great price. Quote
The Next KVD Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 I was a big fan of Vicious Flourocarbon because it was cheap and worked much better than Vanish. I now use P-Line fluoro because it is strong, easy to cast, and very sensative. I still use some Vicious but not as much as P-Line. Quote
Tpayneful Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 I fished all last year with Pline 15lb fluorocarbon line. KVD is spot on...It is strong, casts fantastic and the sensitivity is great! It isn't cheap but the bait monkey has convinced me that it is worth the price I don't think the fish can see it. Last summer I took my boys trout fishing at Montawk in Missouri. The night before, I had too many drinks and the porch light on the cabin was far too dim to tie 2lb leaders so I used the 15lb Pline Fluorocarbon as the leader on my son's rod. We were 15 minutes late getting started fishing but my son had his limit of 4 trout in 15 minutes. We were just tight lining powerbait with a split shot. All the other guys were using 2lb mono for their leaders and they got spanked by a 6 year old. The water was gin clear. I know that RW recommends Yo-Zuri Hybrid but that is a copolymer line and NOT a 100% fluorocarbon line. I have not read any studies on copoly lines but I would suspect that their refractive index is not as close to water as pure fluorocarbon line. Quote
bugman Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Trilene Pro Grade. It has all the qualities of other high-end Flourocarbon line but cast as well as most Co-polys. Quote
Triton20XSD Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 I'm a big fan of the P-Line Fluoro but just purchased some of the Trilene Pro Grade to try this year. Haven't used it yet but it went on the spool nice and doesn't seem to have much memory. Now I just need to test it on the water. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted March 1, 2008 Super User Posted March 1, 2008 BPS XPS fluorocarbon,I never broke off and this stuff is just strong.Recently found out Toray makes this line for BPS.Explains the quality in that line right there. However i'm switching to trilene fluorocarbon this year...I change fluorocarbon lines like i change my clothes. P-line Halo is also a good one, brought in a few carps with this line in #10 test and never retied. The price tag is high on that one. Stay away from Vicious...I hated it! :-? Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted March 1, 2008 Super User Posted March 1, 2008 i used to be a flouro hater.tried numerous brands and hated the way they handled or more accurately the way they nested.then one day a friend of mine convinced me to try again with seguar invizx.imho this line is the flourohaters line.it holds knots extremely well.it has fantastic abrasion resistance and extreme sensitivity.i suggest spooling it on with the spool in hot water.a day later tie it to a tree and back off the line.respool with kvd line spray and let sit overnight.you are now in for the best flouro fishing ever.i like it so much that this year i am using nothing but seguar invizx.just loaded all my reels the other day. Super User burleytog Posted March 1, 2008 Super User Posted March 1, 2008 Ive been using Yo-Zuri Hybrid all last year and all this year. RW got me hooked on it. I really dont know the exact reason why this brand, but it's good stuff at a great price. YZ Hybrid is not flourocarbon. Quote
The_Natural Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 I use the Trilene Pro-Grade. It seems to be what I have waited for in a fluoro...super soft WITH excellent abrasion resistance. Tackle Tour is testing the new Trilene fluoro right now, and the review will be posted next week. I'm curious on how it stacks up against the other fluoros in terms of abrasion resistance, tensile strength, and knot strength. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted March 2, 2008 Super User Posted March 2, 2008 Berkley 100% Fluorocarbon. It doesn't seem as stiff as other brands I've used. I'm looking forward to the Tackle Tour tests also.....that will shed some light on the subject. Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted March 2, 2008 Super User Posted March 2, 2008 I used P-Line 100% Fluoro all last year and liked it. I am giving Trilene Pro Grade a try this year based on so many recommendations on this forum. Quote
HesterIsGod Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Trilene Pro Grade. It has all the qualities of other high-end Flourocarbon line but cast as well as most Co-polys. I agree I havent used it for that long but I do like it a lot. Before that I used Berkely Vanish but only because it was the cheapest. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted March 2, 2008 Super User Posted March 2, 2008 Trilene Pro Grade is my now my favorite line. It is the only one that lives up to the hype. All the problems I experience with other fluorocarbons have seem to be fixed with this line. Once I run out of the big spools of Yo-Zuri Hybrid, this will be on all my reels. I'll be using 8lb for spinning gear and 12lb and 15lb for baitcasters. Quote
Black Bass Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 After reading the threads about flurocarbon, I was ready to try PLine Flourocarbon and Seaquar Invizx. However, I just read "TackleTour's Fluorocarbon Showdown Sequel!!" http://www.tackletour.com/reviewfluorocarbon2.html and it doesn't look like any of the fluorocarbons are ready for prime time. The low knot strength is of real concern. None of the tested lines scored over 80% with any of the common knots. Guess I'll wait until the next "Sequel" to see what the results are on the water before I spend the money. Quote
The Next KVD Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Black Bass have u thought of adding a drop of super glue to the knot. Thats what ive done w/ vanish and vicious to keep the knots from breaking. Also P-line is a great fluoro w/ a great knot strenght. Im serious dude don't let a review disturb you. People have different experiences and u won't know until u try it. Buy one spool and if its not up to ur par than try another. Quote
gabes Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Bass Pro XPS is made by Toray in Japan. Very good line I have used for several years. Goes on sale every year at this time at Bass Pro. Just bought $150 worth today. Check it out. Quote
Fish Chris Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 no matter how you slice it, fluorcarbon is a "mono" or single filament line...... So as a mainline, it sucks. But like Dodge Guy was saying, Seaguar is an awesome fluorocarbon line. I use it for all of my leaders of 20 lbs or less. I might use it in 25 and 30 lb on my swimbait rods too.... if I could find / afford it. Peace, Fish Quote
jhoffman Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 I dont think its worth the money. One other thing to consider is I wouldnt put that on a rod you plan to fish topwater on. Fluro sinks and line that is below the water shows up much better. Quote
