Davis Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 What do you guys recommend for grease and oil for the following. Spinning reels: Pflueger President and Trion Baitcasting: 30 dollar Tourney Special That tourney special needs some more lube IMO and I would like to get my two spinners in top notch shape before the end of March. Will use Reelmech for my Citica when that time comes. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 28, 2008 Super User Posted February 28, 2008 Go to ReelMech's website for recommendations, he has posted his preferences quite often. I for one would follow his advice, he has been at this for awhile. : 8-) Quote

I went there yesterday to check it out but didn't see anything about Bass pro or Pflueger stuff since he doesn't service them. I'l look a bit harder this time though. Thanks. Quote

Davis Posted February 28, 2008 Author Posted February 28, 2008 David's recommendations for grease and oil are applicable to all reel brands. 8-) Actually he directed me to contact BPS and Pfleuger. But I know how hard it is to get a direct answer from those companys. So if anyone has lubed up there Pfluegers can you give me some advice if a particuler lube has worked well for you? Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted February 28, 2008 Super User Posted February 28, 2008 i use regular reel grease for the gears and atf on the bearings.atf is nice and light but will stand up to high rpm.you could use some of the products here.remeber reel mech doesn't like hot sauceby quantum. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SearchResults?searchOption=products&hvarSearchString=reel+oil&storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&CMID=TOP_SEARCH_GO&x=15&y=13 Quote
Pencil Pusher Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 I am using Ardent reel butter oil and grease in all my baitcasting and newer spinning reels. Dodgeguy, will Ford or GM ATF work as well as Mopar ATF? ;D ;D ;D Quote

Super User .RM. Posted February 28, 2008 Super User Posted February 28, 2008 Actually the question read like it was a question on who serviced them, so I gave my answer. .. 8-) As far as what to use to lubricate your reels, any of the quality reel oils and reel gear grease' will work in the RIGHT area's and quantity. Your right I don't like Hot Sauce, it's a bigger gimmick than those orange rods... Quote
Davis Posted February 29, 2008 Author Posted February 29, 2008 My citica came in yesterday. So pumped! Anyway it came with a small vial of lube. Does anyone recommend giving a shot of oil here or there on the citicas out of the box? If so what part should I give a quick lube to. Sounds like there is some rubbing with the cast control knob tightened all the way. Is that rubbing noise normal? I hate being a newbie with all these questions. But you don't learn if you don't ask! : Quote
Super User .RM. Posted February 29, 2008 Super User Posted February 29, 2008 Davis, Not trying to be a SA here, but the owners manual gives the basic lubrication points to the reel, try reading it... 8-) Quote

I looked that puppy over good last night and it didn't give me anything except showing me about backlashes, adjustments, braking, etc. It was just a fold out piece of paper. Should there be an actual book? I feel like an *** lol. Quote
Super User .RM. Posted February 29, 2008 Super User Posted February 29, 2008 Sounds like Shimano quit putting the basic maintenance booklet in the box's again.. Here ya go you will need Adobe to read it. Baitcasting Reels (333 Kb) PDF Quote

Mike-in-WV Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Lol, My Dad would steal a little of my Mom's sewing machine oil. It worked great! At least it never caused any problems for us and the reels ran fine for many years., Mike Quote
