Does using BPS Premium Excel line or Power Pro have more potential to break rods?

If you use power pro rated 20+ lb strength with a 6lb diameter, and have medium strength rods, does this pose a big problem testing rod strength?  In your experience am I risking snapping my rods with this type of line?

At that low of a strength you should be fine.  

The only rod I've ever broken was because I was using 50lb power pro, but it was honestly a stupid mistake on my part that caused it.   If you are smart about the way you land the fish, or how you try to get your baits from being hung up you should be fine.  However, if you try to "muscle" your way out of a situation, you run a very high risk of snapping your rod.

na you don't have to worry bout snapping rods, also check if your drag is correct. many people believe when fishing braid to have their drag locked down and set the hook like a maniac ->which might snap the rod,( but it definitely rips a huge hole in the fishes mouth)

i've seen guys with gorilla hook sets break rods with braid.basically this is their own stupidity because with braid you don't need a monster hookset.also remember you can break any rod with 10 pound test if you pull back past 90 degrees.i've done it just trying to show somebody how stong 10 pound line is.boy did i feel stupid!!! ;D

x2. Rods can actually break with as little as 2 lbs of force when they are placed in the wrong angles.

Thanks guys, appreciate the imput.  Rods are too expensive now to be taking chances!

Set your drag properly and you should have no line induced trouble.

You can easily break a rod with mono or braid if you fail to use your head!

Any time you spool up with line with a rating exceeding the rating of the rod, you've set yourself up for disaster. But, if you have the drag set correctly, and use some common sense, you can get away with it.
