fishing man Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 so i was fishing with my uncle and he brought up a new way to use a crankbait, and i was wondering if any of you have used it or think it would work. could you use a crankbait kinda like a jerkbait? Quote
BIG M Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 sure you can, it's a very productive method to fish a shallow running crank just under the surface. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted October 12, 2007 Super User Posted October 12, 2007 Yes, that is how I fish shad raps but instead of a hard jerk just use a pulling motion on the rod. Allen Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted October 12, 2007 Super User Posted October 12, 2007 yeah thats a pretty darn common way of fishing a crankbait. alot of times i'll reel it in, then just kill it, twitch it some, and get bit then. Quote
Guest muddy Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 Yea man; I like using a shallow Bagley's or a Shad Rap this way ! Slow wide wobble or a seireis of stop and goes, I have had limited sucess doing this. I probablly would have more if I used this presentation more, it works Quote
GAMEOVER Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 Tight wobblers are excellent with slight jerks while cranking. I recommend you pick up some Daiwa Peanut crankbaits. This is by far the crankbait I jerk the most while cranking due to its very aggressive tight wobble that responds very well to slight jerks. Did I mention how productive it is? Try one and I bet you anything youll be buying more. Whoever it was that mentioned the Shad Rap is right to thats another good crank, legendary actually. This isnt really a new method but a tactic thats been used by many crankbait users both beginer and advanced for years. Quote
fishing man Posted October 13, 2007 Author Posted October 13, 2007 thanks everyone for the replys, when i wrote that it was a new way i was wondering if anyone uses it because i have never heard of it (when i talk bout crankbaits all i have ever been told it just real in). Quote

Hey Gameover; Do you know any wooden tight wobblers that can be used this way? Quote
BIG M Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 Muddy, any of the flat sided baits with short lip will work. I'm really a bit biased but the baits I build out of 3/8 thick stock work really well with this tech. Quote
Super User T-rig Posted October 13, 2007 Super User Posted October 13, 2007 That's the best way to fish the Megabass Flap Slap! Quote
Super User cart7t Posted October 13, 2007 Super User Posted October 13, 2007 Storm suspend strips or dots can turn any crankbait into a suspending jerkbait. Here's a freebie. Pickup some floating Rat-L-Traps, add suspend dots, you've now got a suspending Trap. Quote

ABSOLUTELY!!!!! The first time I did this was with a big O. I had cast it to the bank and it landed in a beautiful spot. It was tucked into this small cut in the bank. I decided to just let sit a few moments. Before I started my retrieve I "popped" it once. KA-SPLOOSH!! It was an explosive topwater strike. The bass was a chunky 3 lber and I was hooked. Quote
