Super User Matt Fly Posted February 26, 2008 Super User Posted February 26, 2008 Can anyone tell me were I can spend my 250.oo on a better Rod? Why should I buy the e21? Warranty? I'm looking for good worm/jig rod. Love my Falcons, but do think a better rod will give me a few more bites that I may be missing.
Super User flechero Posted February 26, 2008 Super User Posted February 26, 2008 I don't have a dog in this hunt BUT for that kind of money- IMX or Legend Tourney, NO question about it.
Super User Matt Fly Posted February 26, 2008 Author Super User Posted February 26, 2008 I have no prior knowledge of these rods. Read a thread. A local in my neck of the woods or maybe on here said. I was using the carrot styx this winter for the first time. Same conditions, he said he got some serious thumps before his line moved. Normally, he's been seeing line twitch/movement first. The next few weekends, he said it was the rod, he used old rod and noticed line movement. Hey, I'm a serous line watcher that never sank more than 150.00 in a rod. If theres a rod thats gonna help me like that, I'd like to hear about it. What series do you recommend and why?
Super User Matt Fly Posted February 26, 2008 Author Super User Posted February 26, 2008 I don't have a dog in this hunt BUT for that kind of money- IMX or Legend Tourney, NO question about it. Your opinion on rods is greatly appreciated and respected. Who makes these rods?
Super User Sam Posted February 26, 2008 Super User Posted February 26, 2008 Isn't the Carrot Stick the rod Coach Knight was using as a prop when he gave the pep talk to Duckett and the three other pros? Did any of these four guys do well in the Classic? I know Duckett phloched. What about the other guys? And did any of the seven finalists use a Carrot Stick? Just asking. A word to the wise is sufficient.
rfrazier Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 The regular LTX carrot stix only runs at $150, and delivers the most bang for the buck. The $250 is the Boyd Duckett series, with slightly better components? From what I've heard its not worth the extra $100, and in the $250 price range there really is some serious competition such as the G.Loomis IMX.

Super User flechero Posted February 26, 2008 Super User Posted February 26, 2008 I don't know who's making them... I've read some conflicting reports. I read a lot on them at first and am thankfull that technology is evolving but I don't think this is the answer. For $250 they can spend $15 on some alconites... I have some unsubstantiated opinions based on different articles written on the technology. Try a quick search on RBO for e21 or carrot sticks. There are several guys there with truely salty credentials that have posted on them. I haven't heard anything great about them that didn't come from the marketing department or paid/sponsored people. They have gotten some good press around here lately but mostly spinning rods and northern fisherman... no offense meant, it's just different on T-bend and Fork than most places up north. I hope people can read that as it was intended.
Super User flechero Posted February 26, 2008 Super User Posted February 26, 2008 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1197685135/0 You'll have to wade through some junk but there was some decent responses in that thread.
michbass Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Plan on getting one for the sol, just look pretty together. I think it will be just fine for light cranks with is all I need it for. Mixed reviews from what I can see.
mattm Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 I would go with the 150.00 medium heavy stick. I haven't fished the Boyd Duckett series, but it seems that a lot of the 100.00 is just in the butt cap. I have the 150.00 stick and haven't heard anything negative from someone that has actually fished one. In fact RedlineRobert thinks it is tough enough to take peacock bass fishing. So I don't see why it couldn't handle Fork. I also have a St. Croix legend tournament series that others have suggested and honestly prefer the carrot stick. Especially, for t-rigs. The negative press i've heard about the reel seats have been fixed imo. I had no trouble at all getting my Curado to tighted on it the first time. Hope this helps. Oh yeah, it might not matter to you but this rod is LIGHT.
Super User Matt Fly Posted February 26, 2008 Author Super User Posted February 26, 2008 I read that last thread. I'm not a frequent flyer in the rod section, just looking to find a rod that is that sensitive. Whats the Info on the Kistler LTA, I think it was? I google Tournament Legends rods and G Loomis. I can see both of those at BPS.
Super User David P Posted February 26, 2008 Super User Posted February 26, 2008 For $250 , the Gloomis IMXs rods would be my first choice. I have a MBR844C GLX that I absolutely LOVE, I got it for $290 MSRP: $355 I believe. Or you can get the MBR844C IMX for $245 or something. Great jig rod, and great all around rod.
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 26, 2008 Super User Posted February 26, 2008 Maybe the "issues" with the Carrot Styx have been resolved, but it's still very difficult to determine what you are actually getting in this rod. Mystery components, reel seat, blank, country of origin...The rod that's being sold is not the rod that won awards. G. Loomis owners never complain and the IMX MBR844C has been around awhile. 8-)

Does he get better carrots or what??? Kidding just kidding.
TeamBerettaGold Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 http://www.tackletour.com/reviewicast07rodspg11.html Not all of the rods they make are orange, only the ones that they are for sale to the public right now. I think that the dark red rod looks like a Airrus, and the green one is pretty nice also. Why cant you find them in stores? By no means am I trying to stir the pot, just wondering.
Bass Pro Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Leave the carrots for the rabbits! The reviews that I've seen on those rods stated that they had a moderate action to them making them ok for crankbaits but not for a jig and worm rod. The IMX would be hard to beat in that price range. Shimano Crucial also has some nice rods with extra fast action for jigs and worms. Might also want to check out Powell rods too.
Super User Raul Posted February 26, 2008 Super User Posted February 26, 2008 I say you never know until you try but ........ I don't have a dog in this hunt BUT for that kind of money- IMX or Legend Tourney, NO question about it. X2
Ballpark Frank Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 I don't have a dog in this hunt BUT for that kind of money- IMX or Legend Tourney, NO question about it. X 100 I bought a carrot stick; good rod, interesting look, mostly gimmick. It stays at home, but it looks cool with my orange Rocket on it. Your money could be better spent on a better rod with a proven reputation.

Huh??? :-? : Not all of them are moderate actions, I have a 7'3" and 6'9" MH for jigs and worms. I love them. Go with the $150 LTX,I have heard you can find these rods for other places for around $120. I have fished Croix Legends, Avids, and most Loomis's and this rod beats them all imo. It is a light if not lighter than a Kistler and super sensitive. The Duckett series might be a gimmick but the LTX series are the best bang for your buck around when it comes to rods.
smcentee Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Shimano Cumara? Very light, sensitive, $175-200, lifetime warranty.
Super User ww2farmer Posted February 26, 2008 Super User Posted February 26, 2008 I have fished Croix Legends, Avids, and most Loomis's and this rod beats them all imo. As far as opinions go..............thats a pretty bold one, but typical from young guys who just bought the "latest and greatest", and want to be an authority on something.
Super User Matt Fly Posted February 26, 2008 Author Super User Posted February 26, 2008 I think I may go with the IMX, its one that I'm gonna check out for sure. I'd spend the money on a rod that you could feel a flea fart at 50 yards. Any of those out there? WW2, Always consider the experience behind the rod when advice is solicited or sought. You never know, Senko77 is young, but I give him his props, he's earned it in my book. Hookem
