zelmo Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Cutting mono or fluoro is easy with nail clippers. I haven't had luck using them on braid, and switched to a very sharp pocket knife. Is there a better tool? Quote
Pond Hopper Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 I use a small sharp pair of scissors, I think they are the nose hair trimming kind. Quote
fooman Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 I use the braid scissors but read (Bassmaster?)that you can use the cutter on the package from dental floss..I think Power Pro has that on their boxes now Quote
Saladmander Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Yeah, clippers just seem to mash the braid down and tear it up. Scissors work the best. I just keep a Leatherman on my belt. That way I always have my scissors, pliers, knife, etc. without having to look for them. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted February 21, 2008 Super User Posted February 21, 2008 Fiskars work well and are cheaper than the braid scissors, the blunt point small scissors like elementary school kids use. Available just about anywhere school supplies are: Walmart, K-Mart, Target, office supply places, and drug stores. Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 21, 2008 Super User Posted February 21, 2008 Teeth and sharp sissors. OK, just kidding about the teeth. Braid is difficult and challenging to cut on a good day. A sharp pair of sissors is what I use. Quote
surfer Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 I use nail clippers and pull to the side after the pinch so it slides through the blades. no problems mon. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted February 21, 2008 Super User Posted February 21, 2008 I use a pair of kids saftey scissors. They're cheap, some will float, they won't damage anything in your tackle box and they do a good job of cutting braided line. Quote
Just_Old_Fisherman Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Small kids school scissors at Wal-mart best I have found. Cheap and you can swap them out if/when they get dull. Plus the scissors work for all lines Mono, Fluoro and Braid. Quote
huskertko Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 i have a pair of X-tools pliers that have a cutter on them, and they seem to cut braided line as well as anything else I have tried and best of all when I drop them in the water they float so I don't lose them. Quote
GitRDoneIke23 Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 I use a small sharp pair of scissors, I think they are the nose hair trimming kind. Thoose work for me!! Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 I use the Rapala braided line scissors. Quote
moby bass Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 I use the Rapala braided line scissors. Yep, the serrated part. Quote
vicdotcom Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 I use Bakers cutting forceps. It cuts the braid and I can use it to help me get hooks out at the same time. Vic Quote
lubina Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Is there a better tool? Kids school scissors are the best Quote
Tpayneful Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 My youngest son got on a scissors kick last fall. He cut his hair, his pajamas, the shoe laces off my boots and the STRAP on my TACKLEBAG! He took my scissors out of my tacklebag to do all of the cutting. Hearing your suggestions, I think I will take a pair of his Fiskars and put them in my tacklebag to cut braid! Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted February 22, 2008 Super User Posted February 22, 2008 I use the cheap BPS brand braided line scissors. The one pair i have is 4-5 years old and still work great. Quote
Branuss04 Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 I use the Rapala braided line scissors. I got these on clearance and have no problems with them, they cut braid pretty good, I think my next pair i'll try the little kid scissors. Quote
smcentee Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Most of my fishing is from the bank so I try to minimize what I carry. I dumped the scissors and picked up pliers from Cabela's made by Rising tools, "Work" pliers. The cutter is ultra sharp and easily cut braid. From the hemostat handle to the snap-ring tip, these pliers are well machined. Come in 6 and 8" length. Quote
ba7ss3in Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 I use the scissors on a Gerber multi-tool. Quote

Super User .dsaavedra. Posted February 22, 2008 Super User Posted February 22, 2008 i have not been able to get the kids fiskars scissors to work for me. occasionally the scissors on my swiss army knife will work. i usually just carry a razorblade in my tackle box and use that to slice the line. works pretty well except sometimes that thin blade is hard to get a handle on. i will find some fiskars scissors later and try them out again. Super User David P Posted February 22, 2008 Super User Posted February 22, 2008 I use my teeth. Quote
