long0161 Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Hi everyone Reuben from SC, first time posting. I recently purchased a new baitcasting reel. Today I was out fishing, everything was going fine, then all the sudden the brake wouldnt set when I tried to reel the line in. :'( Looking thru the posts I saw some fixes for common problems (see below). I guess my reel question would be, can I fix this or should I have it professionaly fixed, or just buy a new reel? Im all ears for some serious help, thanks all. Q: Thumb bar / button will not pop up after handle is turned. A: Cause #1: Thumb bar / button or release slider spring is bent or broken. Solution: Replace thumb bar / button spring or release slider spring. Cause #2: Dirt / debris in release slider. Solution: Clean and relubricate release slider. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted February 17, 2008 Super User Posted February 17, 2008 What manufacturer/model is the reel? Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted February 17, 2008 Super User Posted February 17, 2008 Return it. By the way---WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
Mike-in-WV Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Did you get some sand or dirt in it? I would see if you can get to the spring or maybe something else is wrong. If it's fairly new take it back or call the manufacture and see what they suggest. It may be something simple. As far as paying to get it fixed it depends on what the reel is worth. It may be cheaper to replace it, Mike Quote
The Next KVD Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 send it to a proffessional reel cleaner Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 17, 2008 Super User Posted February 17, 2008 I doesn't matter what's wrong with the reel. Return it for exchange, period! Quote
NBR Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 If not over a year old it should be replaced with no questions. Take it back to the retailer or ship back after talking to who ever on the phone. Quote
Super User .RM. Posted February 18, 2008 Super User Posted February 18, 2008 Reuben, If it is the same reel you e-mailed about, return it...That is the hassle of buying reels in blister clam packs......Take it back... Quote
Infidel. Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 I loaned a baitcasting reel to someone and they chewed me out saying that I ruined their trip because I loaned them a piece of junk reel. He said was having the same issue you are describing. Turns out that he just never tightend the drag. Quote
