Sorry about all these post just really trying to buy a solid reel this time around...has anyone used the black, silver or pro max yet? the price almost seems too good to be true for a quality reel

I have not tried them.  But I've inspected them and opened one up and compared them to my Revos.

The people that have them like them.  They have polymer frames and IMO they don't have the level of fit and finish the Revos have because of it.   Of course, the Revos cost a bit more.

If you can afford a Pro Max, you ought to be able to afford a Revo S or Revo SC (from Cabelas).   The price difference is equivalent to just one night at a restaurant.   I'd save for a Revo - they are proven and exceptionally well built.

I'm waiting for my Silver max to arrive any day now. They are a quality reel for the price but if the polymer frame bothers you then pay $50 -$100.00 more for a metal frame. The gears and bearing are still brass and stainless steel and the gears on the higher priced reels may have been polished or debured more. You can do that yourself or pay for it.

The Pro-Max or Revo are great reels from what everyone say's. It just depends on how much you want to spend and what you feel comfortable using, Mike

I have a Silver Max and a Black Max. I like both of them equally well. They cast well, are smooth, and so far durable. The Silver has more bearings, but I can't tell anything different. The only noticeable difference for me is the "click" drag on the Silver. They also have a little "bling" for those that like that. These reels are good budget minded reels, and should serve for awhile. They honor the MAX moniker well. I am thinking about getting a Pro, so I can have all three models.

Here is my Black Max on a G.Loomis GL2, that I used yesterday for short pitches from the bank. I performs very well for it's price range.

i have not tried them but they look pretty cool. i'd consider buying one if i needed a new inexpensive reel.

i know Tin is a firm supporter of the pro max and the other max's.

Yeah i have used my friends revo s and i like it haha you can only throw big baits on it though cuase he lost the adjustment knob..but  i might hold out on spending the 100$ for the revo s and just go with the black max to get me through the rest of these winter months. Burley, I have done allot of research on this reel and other Abu Garcia reels and have chatted with several people who own and use them now. No one has complained about them and in fact they have high praise for them.

I own an Abu Garcia 1003 Lp that was given to me and believe me it performs flawlessly. With #17 test Cajun red casting and a 0.45 oz casting plug I'm reaching an average 42 yards. This is with a used Browning  Matrix Graphite casting rod that is 6'-6", Med Hvy Act, 3/8-1 oz.Lure weight and  #10-#20 test. I have no complaints with this reel and it is not one of there best by any means. As long as it does the job intended for it it doesn't have to do any more to keep me happy,   Mike

ebay had the revo s at $79 plus $8 shipping. not too shabby.
