I got hooked on using them about 20 years ago and wouldn't think of anything else.  I like being to place the reel where I want it.

I like them for another reason. My hand doesn't have contact with  cold plastic and the rough texture of threads and locking rings like most spinning rod handles have.

I just picked up several of the "rod wraps" for wrapping handles and did my spinning rods.  You can wrap right over the reel seat on conventional spinning rods.  Feels great.

I had two of them, a long time ago. One had "slip rings" that were always coming loose and had to be fiddled with all the time. The other had nothing; I had to tape the reel in place. never found a tape that wouldn't get gooey when it got hot. Plus, it looked like I was too cheap to buy a real rod.

Hated both of "em, and gave them away.
