Flurocarbon Line - which one & why??

I went to a fishing show yesterday & was talking to the rep at the Shimano booth about my reels. He asked what reels do I have & what lines do I put on the them. I told him I've got Curados & Stradics. Since I fish a clear lake, for the last few years I've used nothing but Vanish Transition on all of my reels and really like the line. He said he's used Vanish Transition but prefers Gamma. He feels that Gamma is a more superior fluro line & out performs Vanish Transition and suggested I try it. I looked online & couldn't believe the price for Gamma...ouch! So I searched the internet for any articles and/or field tests on flurocarbon lines. I found a couple of articles from 2005/2006 but no more up to date results. So I'd like to either hear from those that have tried a variety of fluro lines for their results & what they prefer. Or maybe somebody has found some recent articles and/or field tests on fluro lines that explains the differences of the various brands on the market.

I have not tried Sunline because of the cost ($35) but really like the new Berkley 100% Flouro Pro Grade. The 15# has all the advantages of other flouro's but casts as nice as most co-polys.

EVERYONE who fishes Sunline Shooter says it is THE BOMB!

However, I have not fished the line.  I'm happy with the low visibility of Yo-Zuri Hybrid. In the ultra-clear waters of Bull Shoals and the White River, Hybrid in green is virtually invisible and FAR more manageable than any fluoro I have fished.

I have tried various fluoros in the search for the perfect one.  My favorites are Vicious and P-line 100% fluorocarbon.  The P-line I believe is THE BEST fluorocarbon out their.  Its strong, abraision resistant and casts so much easier than the rest.  I also like Vicious for carolina rig leaders and for times when I can't afford to pay the $16 for the P-Line.

I use Sunline Shooter and when you take into account not having to replace it as often as some other line it is no more expensive as Gamma.  Shooter is the THE BEST fluorocarbon out their.

i like bereky vanish   its very flexible while comparing to other flouros  and it tangles less   but still has that great invisiblity under the water  its my favorite   i have never tried that sunshine stuff

I fished 15lb Pline fluorocarbon all last year and was really impressed with it. I am going to try the 14lb BPS fluorocarbon this spring so that I can compare it to the Pline.  I have not tried Vanish but have heard complaints from friends about it.

Well after reading the Tackle Tour test results...wow! I really don't know what to think. I would like to know if when they did the knot strength tests, did they wet the fluro line before tying say the palomar knot? But in the end, it sounds like when you finally decide on which flurocarbon line to use, you'll choose it the same way you choose everything else you do in fishing - whether it is buying new rods/reels or even what lure and technique is your favorite go to - it all comes down to what you have confidence in. Thanks for the info. I'll probably stick with the Vanish Transition.

I use the Seaguar INVIZX and have no complaints. I tried Vanish but had problems with it breaking. Just spooled one reel with Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon Professional Grade and have had no problems with it and I like that it comes in a green tint color.

I prefer Berkley Pro-Grade...2nd choice would be Bass Pro's XPS fluoro.  Unfortunately for Gamma and Sunline, Tackle Tour took all the fluoro's through a battery of tests.  It proved more expensive definitely doesn't mean better.  If you fish Gamma or Sunline...you better keep fresh line on.  Gamma has less abrasion resistance than Trilene XL, and Sunline's Shooter has equivalent abrasion resistance to Trilene's softest offering.  Bass Pro's XPS clearly surpasses both lines in the tests, and is nearly 1/3 the price.  

Abrasion resistance....(Trilene XL represents '0'...lines below it are less abrasion resistant, and lines above it are more abrasion resistant)

Knot strength...(Again, Trilene XL represents '0')

what sthe hype about sunline looks to me like it fails most test even against trilene xl wich is a good line but a whole diff world compared to floro,s  BPS and berkley professional grade are best all around ;D

Been using the Vicious 15# for about 3 months and really like it.  No problems so far, had used BPS XPS before, the Vicious seems to have less memory.  PLUS, BPS XPS is about 50% higher in $/yd and the Trilene 100% is 5X higher in price.  Haven't tried the Trilene, due to price, but can't imagine it is 5X better than the Vicious!

I love Yo-Zuri Hybrid. Best line I have used in a long time!

I have been using Trilene Profesional and it is the first Flourocarbon that I have use that actually lives up to all the hype.  Just great line.

i've been using Seagur floro in 6lb test for drop shotting and on my shakey head rod. Been happy with it so far. I've heard the BPS floro is the bang for the buck and will try that this year. I use P-Line fluro-clear copolymer on the rest of my rods. 8lb is very good stuff and affordable.

My first experience w/ floro was using berkley vanish... it took me 3 years to even touch floro again... that stuff is JUNK... i must've broke off 10 sub-legal bass on the hookset! (8lb test)

I have heard bad thing about vanish too.  "ya dude, the only thing that vanishes is your fish when the line breaks"

But I watched a friend land a 5.5lb bass on 4 lb vanish.  Now I use 4lb with no problems yet.

I was pretty down on Flurocarbon after a bad expeirance with Vanish, but the glowing recomendations by members here of the new Trilene 100% Flurocarbon prompted me to buy some to try this upcoming season. 1 spool for now, to see if I like it.

Have been using Vicious 15# Fluoro for about a month with good results.  I also like the price, esp compared to Berkley 100% fluoro.  While the Berkley may be good line, it is hard for me to justify paying 5x for it what I pay for Vicious especially when I have no problems with Vicious.
