Hey guys I'm new here and I want to say that this site is great.  I searched in this forum but I was unable to find much info on the new Shimano Saros reel.  I checked one out at my local tackle shop and it feels really smooth.  My question is how does the Saros compare to the older white Stradics?  The reason I ask is because both can purchased new for about $100 on eBay and I'm tring to decide with one to get.   Thanks in advance!

The jury is still out on this one. I don't know anyone who has one yet.

I have two of the older Stradics..they suit me just fine.  ;)

Yes, the jury is still out. However, on paper, the Saros has some of the newer technology that the older Stradic does not have, yet at the old Stradic's price point.

I too have tried it but I don't "need" one at this time. They sure look nicer and better than the old stradic's sickly (IMHO) appearance. On looks alone, I'd never buy the older stradic and this is coming from one who normally has function override looks.  Butt ugly the old stradic is, young padawan.  ;D

Well, I got one for Christmas and it's quite smooth, looks and feels great. But........as you probably know, our waters are still frozen up here and probably will be for a while yet. Until ice-out I cant really give er' a good test .
