I have 2 Berkely 5'6" casting rods that are from the early 80s I would say. 1 is a power pole with the neon or glow in the dark tip?? it specs are 1/4-5/8, 10-17lb line, med action super strong. The other is a Lightning rod same lure rating 10-20lb line and just says med lt action? The Lightning has the short trigger handle and the powerpole has a small split grip. Can I put these to use for something. PLease recomend a reel for them too. I was think maybe small spinner baits, cranks?? Maybe a Revos S or Curado 100??

i use a 5-6 pistol grip for spinnerbaits and rattle traps when i want extreme accuracy casting.as for a reel i would get a pfluger narrow spool trion or a rick clunn bps reel.both are $99.

I fish mostly from the bank so I use only 5'6" or 6' because of all the trees, vines, stumps, underbrush and anything else that wants to get in my way. Actually have always used those lengths and really like them. I don't have to heave a lure a country mile like a lot of the other guys and I think your accuracy is a lot better on them. Depending on your budget, I like Shimano and have a Citica on 1 of my rods. Great reel :P. Hope this helps...

I have a 5 1/2 ft. Berkley pistol grip rod from the late 80's.  I bought it new at K-Mart around '87 I think.

I bought a small Quantum baitcaster for mine and I use it for rat-l-trap some and some top water lures like buzz baits etc...

I fish with it alot when night fishing and also from the bank.  I will use it to skip docks etc...

Since I am only 6'2" (that's 5'10" without the fro), short rods mean one thing, TOPWATER!! I was having trouble with my "walk the dog" type baits because I would always have the tip of my rod hitting the water. Not any longer with 5'6" custom pistol grip from Reel Mech, paired up with a fuego with sufix braid, its a topwater killer.
