mikystyle Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Not sure if this has already been asked. I did a search and didnt find to much, sorry if it is a repetative question. Im a weekend fisher, nothing to extreme. I have used spincast reels my entire life. Ive been thinking bout moving to a baitcast reel. I dont want to go nuts and spend over 100$ but i have no idea where to start. I have been looking at the Quantum accurist, Daiwa megaforce, Daiwa procaster. Just so u can get an idea of my price range. Any thin to stay away from, anything everyone can agree on as beeing a good reel. I usually use soft plastics with occasion spiners. Thanks Quote
Red Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 cant go wrong with this one http://www.***.com/descpageRLCABUGAR-AGRS.html Quote
Ballpark Frank Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 I agree with Red, but I have also become partial to the Accurist and Daiwa Exceler. You can get a good deal($30 to $50) on the Accurist CX right now, Quantum has discontinued the CX, and everyone has discounted them. The Exceler is an excellent reel for around $70. Quote
vicdotcom Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Hi Mikystyle! Welcome to the forums I would recommend going to a local bait and tackle store to try out different baitcasters. At lest hold them and spin the handles a few times to see if any stands out to you. A bait and tackle store wont lead you wrong if you tell them you have about 70-100 dollars to spend. Get one that you really like and feels good in your hand. Hold a few "cheapies" if the store has those also and you will tell a difference right away in the quality. There really isnt much to really "Stay away" from except for the 20-30 dollar reels. But that is my advice There are many brands that will fit your fishing needs. You probably wont get a good concensus that everyone will agree on, but I think anyone can agree to stay within the main brands such as daiwa, shimano, abu garcia, quantum etc. Bottom line, try each out in your own hands to see what fits nice Vic Quote
skillet Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 WELCOME to the forums!!! There's no way you could get all of us to agree on one thing ;D(except how much we enjoy fishing for Bass). Decent link Red gave you or take vicdotcom's advice... As Ever, skillet Quote

beechnut Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Not trying to hijack the thread but I too have been thinking about a baitcaster. Only problem is last time I had one <10 years ago> I could never figure out how to use the dang thing without it birdnesting every time. I had the tension set where it would slowly pull the line out with a lure on the end hanging down but just barley. I would do god on a cast but as soon as the lure hit the water line jsut kepot going out everywhere lol. If i stopped the line with my thumb then the lure would jerk back in a mean way so cast didnt got to far. Post some pointers for me, I can't find a bait casting for dummies book anywhere BN Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 13, 2008 Super User Posted February 13, 2008 Welcome aboard! This is a "sticky" in the top portion of this section. I think it addresses most questions: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1151590913 p.s. The Shimano Possee recommends the Citica at this pricing point. http://www.deloscustomtackleshack.com/reels/shimanocitaca.html 8-) Quote
