What kind of tackle boxes do you guys prefer and why??? I am looking to upgrade and wonder how you guys tote your gear. I wonder what benefits the hard plastic boxes have vs. the soft sided carrying cases. How did you guys decide what worked best for you??? As always, I appreciate everyone giving their input.

i just fill a normal sized plano box with what i think i will be using...right now it has jigs and trailers, a few 10" worms, and 3 cranks...plus terminal tackle...then i throw my pliers, camera, and scale in my pockets/golf cart and away i go....the rest of my stuff is scattered around my house

No,.....not a joke :)

AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH

Nah,....In all seriousness, I keep all the bags in one central mack daddy box.  It's a German made box I got about 6 years ago and  what is really trick about it, is that it also doubles as a rod locker.

i use the falcon boxes because they are so convenient. they have a box for just about everything, the only thing that i dont like about them is their jig box wont hold a football head jig, other than that theyre the best ive ever used. to carry em' in i have a huge Denny Brauer signature series soft tackle bag, but i usually just use the compartments of my triton lol

I have 2 of these. I transfer the 3700 boxes in and out as seasonal patterns dictate.  Soft plastics I keep in ziplocks inside of clear zippered larger bags.  Spinnerbaits I store in a 100 count CD soft carry case.

I use the big Okeechobee flats soft bag a la wal mart. for my plastics.

And a plano 7771 for hard baits.

I have an assortment of soft sided bags.  Depending on what type of fishing we are doing I can sometimes get by with one or two of them.  In the boat I set the boxes on edge in the center storage compartment.  The labels save me some time picking out what I want to use.

Thats funny. I was googling German tackle companies. I use a soft bag. I have about 500 Plano 3700's I just move things around accordingly. I did have one of those Wal Mart beast bags but I think I lost one of my kids in one. Soft Side IMO

That's what I use, too. It's the most convenient thing I've come across yet.

I also have one of these...

...but its a pain in the *** to use on my boat. The front of it folds down so you can slide out the 370 boxes. But if there is anything in the front flap, it makes a lump too high for the bottom box to slide over, so you have to tilt the whole bag back to get the box out.

So I just got a few of those 370 totes in th your picture and use those. Much, much easier.

Burley - nice. That's the same tackle bag I use for my hard baits. The thing is awesome. I rarely take the whole thing with me, but for me, it's a great base of operation. Instead of writing directly on the box though I put strips of athletic tape labeled with sharpies - this way when I get in the mood to improve the system, I can easily switch labels. I usually just take a backpack with me either with a couple of the 3700 boxes and a bunch of plastics, or I'll hand pick a bunch of lures and put them into much smaller boxes to fit in the backpack.

For my plastics I use little ziplocks (or sometimes the original packaging) inside of bigger ziplocks, then label the big ziplocks: senkos, kreatures, curly tail worms, tubes/grubs, frogs, etc. Then with that pile of big ziplocks, I dump them all into an older, smaller soft bag than that Cabelas one from which I've emptied the hard plastic boxes. This way I can put my scents, rigging tools, spare pliers, dyes and markers in the outside pouches.

It's funny - when I started to get into bass fishing hardcore about 2 years ago, I started with a hard drawer-type tackle box that had all my lures in it. About two weeks later, I graduated to a soft box with 8 3600-ish boxes, and a couple of months later, I graduated to the huge Cabelas one that has 12 3700s that also held my plastics. Now, I've moved all the plastics away from the hardbaits to make room, and my plastics sack is full to the brim. I think I have some issues.

Word of advice: don't get a tackle box that is way too big for all of your tackle because then you feel a very strong urge to fill it.

The best system for me so far is a BPS bag (red one). I keep all my hard baits in 3600 plano boxes and all soft baits in 1 gallon clear freezer bags. Soft plastics are grouped together in freezer bag like senkos, creature baits, jig trailers, etc. and it is the best way to carry the most soft plastics in the least amount of space.

I now use a Jansport 3 Day Hiker backpack.  I can put a bunch of tackle in this thing, including my lunch, cell phone, a few beers, etc.  It's a lot easier to carry than my old plano 777 plus it has a lifetime warranty.  I sent one back to them years ago and got a new one in the mail about 2 months later.  It may have taken awhile but I still got a new one.

I use 2 hard sided boxes that fit 3700's and have slot's for 2 smaller 6 compartment boxes. One box alway's has one tray that never leaves. It has tools, weights, and terminal tackle. The other tray's I interchange as needed. I have extra tray's that hold like lures. One tray of top water, one tray of cranks, one tray of lipless, ect... As my father is really into wood working, I am in the process of building permanent cabinets in the boat ( I have a dual console, full windshield boat, not a Bass boat). The cabinets will hold the tray's so they will alway's be in the boat. I can then just take out what I need if I do some shore/dock fishing.
