Saladmander Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 I'm looking for a new crankbait rod. A local shop has Croix and Loomis rods on sale. The Avid's around $100 and the Loomis is around $130. I crank lumber most of the time, med and shallow runners. I just picked up a Curado 200DPV that needs a rod. Anyone have any preferences between these two rods? My old crankbait rod for this situation is a 7' M/... so, I'll probably go the same on my new rod. Thanks for any input fellas. Quote
BaitMS Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 I don't think you can wrong with either one of those. I don't have any experience with loomis, but I did recently get a AC70MHM and love it! It's rated for baits 3/8-1oz and this would be more than plenty to throw the baits you mentioned as well has some deeper diving ones. For those prices, you could pick up both and sell the one you didn't like and still come out ahead. Or, you will end up liking both and have to buy another reel! ;D Quote
The_Natural Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Being a crankbait rod, as long as it is a moderate action rod you can't go wrong. Buy one that you like the feel of. That being said, the Loomis CBR's are the lightest crankbait rods out there, and the most sensitive (as far as dedicated crankbait rods go). Neither of the afforementioned qualities are essential for crankin', but I enjoy the attributes. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted February 10, 2008 Super User Posted February 10, 2008 Loomis, Loomis, Loomis, Loomis....Need I say more? Wait a minute. which Loomis crank rod is it? I have the Loomis CBR 843... it is a 7' med, fast action crank rod. I use it with a Diawa Sol and #10 mono for shallow to med cranks.. Your Curado 200 may be a bit too big for this rod but I like lite tackle. This particular rod has very good backbone. Quote

Super User Bassn Blvd Posted February 10, 2008 Super User Posted February 10, 2008 I have no complaints with mine. Quote
