Super User South FLA Posted December 9, 2007 Author Super User Posted December 9, 2007 You just got it 6 days ago. Why are you gluing things back together? Why don't you return it for a refund? I will if the glue doesn't hold or if have anymore issues I'll return it, but since I mail ordered it I figure it is less of a hassle for me to try to fix it as opposed to sending it back. I have thirty days to do an RMA. If I do return it and get a new one back, I am selling it ASAP. Anyway, how is your Revo holding up? Any problems? Quote

I've even managed to catch a few schoolie stripers and a blue cat on one of my Revo SCs. The only annoying thing was that thay were all under lubircated - and the documentation that comes with the reel sucks. Otherwise, they are performing fine. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted December 10, 2007 Super User Posted December 10, 2007 Well, earlier I said that my new Premier was bone dry so I oiled it and that seemed to have stopped the noise. NOT. Apparently when I took it apart to oil it, I did not put the spool tension knob in the same position. The reel made no noise when I casted it but now the spool was way too loose. I adjusted the tension knob to where I like it and I'll be damned if it didn't make that screetching noise again. I loosened the knob just 2 clicks and the noise stopped when I casted it. I tighened back 2 clicks and it made the noise. I tightened 2 more clicks and it stopped. I put it back to where I started(2 clicks looser) and it made noise. It appears to only make the noise when the tension knob is in this one specific position. I really like the way this reel fishes and fits my hand but the noise should not be happening. Any help with this problem would be appreciated. If I have to return it then I'm done with ABU but I'm willing to give it a fair shake. Quote

I have always done a bearing flush and relube upon a reel purchase, but anything else and I'm going to get rid of it. One of my Shimano Scorpions made a noise that could not be figured out...by me after doing my maintenance or Lake Fork Tackle. So I sold it for a $50 loss. One of my TD-Z's made a high-pitched noise right off, but I realized I was too eager to fish with them before I flushed the factory grease out of the bearings. All is well now with my Z's. Maybe ReelMech or someone else will chime in, but but a high-pitched noise during casting seems to point to spool related bearings. I'd just get a fresh reel... Quote
Super User 5bass Posted December 10, 2007 Super User Posted December 10, 2007 I've got 9 Revo's now. (2-S, 2-SX, 3-STX, 2-Premier) and I've only had an issue from one of them. It was an SX that developed a gear grinding problem after about 5-6 months of use. I took it back to where I bought it and got a replacement. I've only had the Premiers long enough to fish them one day and I didnt hear any noise from either one. Quote

Same exact thing I described above, so I know its not the BEARINGS due to your description and my experience. We both relubed bearings and no dice. Try adding a little reel grease around the edge of where the pinion shaft hits the friction plate on the tension knob and then add a drop of reel oil to the center of friction plate. Its working with my Premier and wonder if it will work with yours, post your results. I am in your boat, I really like the feel, weight, and castability of the reel, but the noise has to go. If not back for a refund and no more ABUs for me. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted December 10, 2007 Super User Posted December 10, 2007 ok. I will do that. I won't get results back till next weekend though. My work schedule changed this week. I have to work days 8-5. Sucks big time. Quote

Super User South FLA Posted February 9, 2008 Author Super User Posted February 9, 2008 I returned my Revo Premier due to whining noise when casting and got a new one. Went fishing all day Thursday and guess what?...The same thing happens! Took it apart cleaned and lubed it up and still no dice. > So for those of you wanting a ABU Revo Premier, stay away its not an isolated incident. I am going to return it to Abu for warranty work and when I back I will be selling it on Ebay and buying a Shimano Metanium Mg or Another Zillion. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted February 9, 2008 Super User Posted February 9, 2008 Wow, the 3 I have are issue free. So far, I feel like they are the best reels I've ever owned. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted February 9, 2008 Super User Posted February 9, 2008 I sent mine back to Cabellas 2 weeks ago and still waiting for a response. I cleaned and oiled it but no luck. I sure liked that reel, even with the screetching noise. Quote
