GatorBK Posted February 4, 2008 Author Posted February 4, 2008 That is true Redline . I have went through about 4 reels the past couple months. This gator business can be a net loss by the time you figure in gas equiptment etc. The FWC doesnt pay us ,the only money I get is for the gator . That way taxpayers save money on our service. I just got my 1099 last week :'( Quote
surfer Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 witout putting to much thought into it, a reel designed for fishing great white shark may be up to the task. Maybe a Pen Senator in one of its larger sizes under $100. oops. Just noticed the SPINNING in the title. Quote

I just got my 1099 last week :'( I lived in Tampa for a while a saw how many gators have to be removed and man yall should get paid by the tax payers. They are the same folks who want to build developments in swamps and then whine when there little fluffy dog gets eaten when they let it out. You guys do a job that only few would and I never realized that the government doesn't pay yall. Ok, enough of the rant, I was going to say the Van Stall also, but if price is an issue like others said a big Okuma or Penn. Personally I am a huge Abu Garcia fan and just got one of their new 800 series and they rock, but not sure if they make one big enough for you. Quote
Super User Micro Posted February 5, 2008 Super User Posted February 5, 2008 Well I am trying to be serious . Its my job to catch them. I just have been going through reels and need to invest in one thats castable but has strong gears and if possible a high gear ratioI reeled this one in a few weeks ago and he was hooked in the tail Check out Avet. http://www.avetreels.com/products.html Quote
Ifish4keeps Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Beleive it or not I caught that big gator on this reelhttp://i32.tinypic.com/24ctnow.jpg I am unsure of the year of the reel but its strong geared . I tightened the drag too tight on an 8 footer and the mount on the reel snapped. I wish I could fix that mounting part of that old reel. But I need a new strong one I heard Penns are good I never have tried one dude that reel looks like its about 400 years old, did your greatgreatgreatgreatgreatgreatgreatgreat grandfather's dad make it? Super User Micro Posted February 5, 2008 Super User Posted February 5, 2008 Since cranking reels have already been suggested, I figured I'd throw in another viable alternative. Quote
