I was at Gander today and I was looking for a flippin rod and I came across the Gander brand! I was looking at a 7'6" MH for $59.00. Have any of you fished the Gander rods and what do you think of them?

I bought one Gander rod last year for $60, a 6'6" MH spinning. I think it's called Guide Series. I'm very pleased with it except I don't care for the reel seat that much.

I have a couple of Gander's musky rods. I have a guide series and a competitor series. I LOVE the guide! The competitor series is a little on the heavy side for me.

I have been for the past 4 years using a Guide Series rod/reel combo tournament series and i LOVE it. Never a problem and it cast/reels very smooth. Then again im pretty much a noob so eh yea it works for me so i dont plan on changing until it doesnt work for me anymore

I have a couple of the guide series tournament rods that retail for $79.99 , but got 'em on sale for $49.99. These rods come with fuji alconite guides and are a steal at that price.

Does Gander offer a catalog? Or are they just a retail store? Can't find anything online showing these rods?

How are these musky rods?  I am thinking about getting a few of these and was wondering how they were (they felt good, but how a rod feels and how it fishes are a different stories)

Just retail, but if you can't find what you want at the store closet to you call around to some other Gander Mtn's the will sell you stuff over the phone and ship it  CHEAP.

ive bought two guide series rods and they both broke on  the first trip and then one of my friends bought one and it broke on the first cast and then my brother bought one and he broke it on a snag. i would recommend buying a shimano or a fennwick.

Hey Lucky Craft Man,

Like I said, I love my guide series! The musky in my signature was landed on my 7' MH action. They're a little heavier than St Croix's (my fishing partner's rod choice that I've had a chance to try) but well worth the money IMO. I use this rod primarily for smaller cranks and bucktails (it's rated for 5/8 to 3oz lures). Hope that helps you!

Short version:

Awhile back, they were bought out, and then sold their catalog sales to another company. They now want to do online sales, but had to go to court over it becouse of the sale of their catalog. They won, so soon they should be online.

Purchased their 7" MH Musky rod last year on sale for 39.99. Paired it with an Abu Ambassadeur round. Haven't used it yet but looking forward to it.

Also picked up a 6' MH Guide Series spinning rod in 6' that I want to use

in some fairly tight areas I fish along a river.

man i dont know i have had some bad luck with their brands but you guys seem to do fine with them maybe the ones i got where company errors

what was wrong. their return policy on guide series equipment is great. if your rod breaks bring it back, no questions asked.

Actually, the return policy is only good for two years and you must have your receipt.  I was looking for a new shakey head rod yesterday and asked about warranty when I was there.

THANKS! for the information. I found their web site, but nothing yet to indicate catalog sales. Maybe come spring?

Gander was in trouble or something way back when. Cabela's bought out Gander's online catalog and had an agreement of no GDNMT catalog for x # of years. Thus they don't have one and may not for a while. I saw another post here recently where Gander thinks Cabelas violated the agreement and is thinking of starting online again so maybe coming?

The trip ones hard to tell depends, the first cast deal def stinks but the snag is a no no rods are not meant to pull out snags. Do it with an expensive Shimano or Loomis or any rod and you will be left holding an expensive toothpick. I find a piece of scrap branch and wrap the line around it. I use the stick to pull out the snags. This also saves from the line cutting into the joints of my fingers.
