Super User roadwarrior Posted January 31, 2008 Super User Posted January 31, 2008 Lamiglas SR705R. All components are top-notch. This is a rod designed by Skeet Reese, 2007 Angler of the Year. http://www.lamiglas.com/prod_indiv.php?id=38 8-) Quote
RockvilleMDAngler Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 For shallow to medium divers I use the GLoomis CBR843C. It is 7' Medium action and it is my favorite rod to cast... period. Fishing with the 843 made me love crankbaits. Quote
Branuss04 Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I got the Powell 704CB and have no complaints, It's light, somewhere around 4 oz. Don't know if it compares with loomis, but it easy on the wallet. Quote
ABC123 Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Any suggestions on a quality fiberglass rod I heard their best dont know what do you suggest 'Glass rods are not really the best, but they have the best action for crankbaits, at a low cost. New blended graphite rods now have the same action, but also offer sensitivity, something 'glass rods don't have. I have 2 of the Cabela's E-glass rods for kids to use/abuse. They have held up quite well. The BPS cranking rod seems to get good reviews, and cost a little more, but I'm sure they are lighter too. Suggestions have already been made for higher end rods. So, the questions are.... 1) How much do you want to spend? 2) Do you want spinning or casting? 3) Deep or shallow cranks, or try to use for both? Quote
Evan Pease Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Ive got a Fenwick HM 6'6" 1/4-3/4 and it feels good. I also have a 7'0" Diawa S 1/4-1 thats good too. They are about $80-$104 in th order listed. Quote

alger319 Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 i got a 7 ft. medium St. Croix, and it's amazing for launching lipless cranks...and im fixing to get a med-lite for deep-divin. Quote
fishin_fool Posted February 1, 2008 Author Posted February 1, 2008 Thanks guys a place to start Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 1, 2008 Super User Posted February 1, 2008 To expand on the recommendations, I think the SR705R I mentioned is the ideal rod for heavy treble hook lures and deep diving cranks, but I fish two other rods for other lures. For light, shallow cranks I have an Avid AC70MM matched to a Shimano Chronarch. For lipless cranks (Rat-L-Trap type lures), jerkbaits and buzzbaits, an Avid AC66MF with a soft tip. The AC66MF is what I would recommend as an "all-around" rod for treble hook lures. I have mine saddled with a Shimano Metanium. 8-) Quote

This would be a good choice if I were throwing Rapala DT14 and 16? Quote
