US Reels

Has anyone used these spinning reels and where can i order one?

 No experience with one but Cabelas '07 catalog has them listed not sure about '08.

I did see a post or 2 some time ago about these I think and they were somewhat unimpressed. I'm not sure if those were Ardent baitcasters or US Reel spinning though to be honest. I know whatever it was is American made.

Try Cabelas and BPS online or go to them if close and check them out.

If you decide to buy one come back and post a review so we can all learn.

I doubt it was Ardent.   Ardent is right up their with the best of reels.

US Reels products are not American Made.

I have a US Reel. First they are not made in the US just designed here. I have owned mine since June and have been happy with it with one exception. There is a spot where the bail wire meets the part that holds the line roller that will catch your line at times and your line will stick in it after you cast maybe one out of twenty or thirty casts.  To fix the problem I put a drop of epoxy in that spot so the line couldn't slide in it. It fixed the problem but hopefully on the newer models they have found a fix for this. I can cast farther with it, have less line tangle problems and I have a huge line capacity with the larger spool. I have landed ten, eleven and twelve pound bass with it on six and eight pound line and have a lot of confidence in the drag system.  Here is the video of the 11 lber being caught on the reel so you can get an idea of how it works on larger fish.  http://media.putfile.com/119-lb-Varner-Bass-

I've never had the chance to actually field test one of those reels, but I did order one from Cabelas a couple years ago because I thought it looked interesting.  At the time there was only one model level with a carbon fiber body ( I noticed that there are some less expensive models now.)  Right out of the box, the thing made this aweful sound when retrieving with the handle, like the main gear was rubbing on the sideplate.  So, I boxed it up, sent it back and got a Stradic.  That's the only experience that I've had with one of those.  If you get one, I second the post on letting us know how it is.

Several years ago I bought the original US Reel as part of a light tackle package sponsored by Ray Scott. As I recall, at that time the reels were manufactured in St. Louis.

Initially the reel sold for about $120, the same price as the Shimano Stradic 2500FH. So, it seems fair to compare these reels at the same pricing point. The US Reel was rough and slightly unbalanced. The reel was ugly and the spool WAY too deep for something touted as a "light line" specialty product. This reel, I'm told, was recalled but I was never notified. I gave the rig to my dad and he still fishes it, but it is NOT something I would recommend. If the Stradic is a 10, the US Reel was a 3.
