surfer Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 I am selling a rod and reel and don't have time to go by the post office. Dose anyone know how much shipping costs for a rod to one address and a reel to a different address. I already have the box and tube I just need to know postage to include in the sale prices. Thanks in advance. Quote
ABC123 Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 I would think you could go to USPS, UPS, Fed Ex, DHL, etc...website and get an exact quote. I didn't see anything glancing over the UPS site, but i found what looks like a way to get a quote on the FedEx site: http://www.fedex.com/ratefinder/home?cc=US&language=en Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted January 25, 2008 Super User Posted January 25, 2008 I shipped a 7' gloomis from MO to CA for a little over $9. I called and asked before hand and they said it would have to be weighed and measured before they could determine the price. Quote
surfer Posted January 25, 2008 Author Posted January 25, 2008 Thanks guys. Hopefully I can accommodate two people on the for sale forum now. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted January 25, 2008 Super User Posted January 25, 2008 Once a package gets over 6 foot in length the shipping charges go to a balloon rate. Then it's a formula based on weight * length * girth. The kicker is in who measures it at the PO. Some counter people will merely measure the diameter of the tube which gives you a cheaper rate, others measure completely around the tube which obviously will be a longer measurement thus, a more expensive rate. Typically, a 6'6" rod going most anywhere from my home city of St Louis would cost around $18.50 -19.50 with delivery confirmation. Ins. is extra. If they measured using the diameter I would pay only around $12 for the same rod. It just all depends who's running the counter at the PO. A reel will cost you around $5.50 - 7.50, delivery confirmation included/no ins. Quote
JayW Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 I shipped a 7' gloomis from MO to CA for a little over $9. I called and asked before hand and they said it would have to be weighed and measured before they could determine the price. Wow! Every rod I've ever shipped or had shipped (I build rods) has been in the $20 range for anything 6' and over. Who shipped a 7' rod for $9? I need to know so I can start using them! Quote
