apathy Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 On a tight budget and I need a new reel. I'm looking at these http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_73505_100001001_100000000_100001000_100-1-1 http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_74545_100001001_100000000_100001000_100-1-1 http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_91122_100001001_100000000_100001000_100-1-1 Im looking for a good reel in that price range. Would like to spend 50 or less, but can spend 75 i guess. Please let me know what youd buy, you guys know your stuff. Quote
dman Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 For what its worth: One of my first baitcasters was a very cheap Daiwa in the $40 range....It lasted a long time and worked well. Never tried the others Plus , if u need a left hand retrieve the Daiwa is the only one with it out of your choices here. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted January 21, 2008 Super User Posted January 21, 2008 If you live near a BPS, I would wait until they have their spring sale. They usually have a reel trade-in and some really good sales on their house brand reels. They only reel from them that I have used and liked was the Rick Clunn Baitcaster. I think last year you could pick it up for around $75 on sale during the spring sale. Quote
Chad. Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Hey the best advice i can give is DO NOT CHEAP OUT! go here and buy a citica, get the rebate aswell . http://www.deloscustomtackleshack.com/reels/shimanocitaca.html Quote
The_Natural Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Waiting for the Spring Classic is good advice, being winter and all. All BPS and Browning reels are made by Silstar, and I'd rather own a Daiwa (I'm sure it doesn't have anything to do with the fact I own all Daiwa's ). I know Raul always recommends the Procaster as a great cheaper priced reel, so I'm sure he will chime in. So I'll say Procaster 8-) Quote
LakeAnnaBasser Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 If i were you I would either get http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_96615_100001001_100000000_100001000_100-1-1 or http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20166-cat20331&id=0053391122850a&navCount=5&podId=0053391&parentId=cat20331&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=IJ&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20331&hasJS=true Quote
ILfisherman Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 x2 on that Daiwa Megaforce w/ the twitchin' bar. I own the BPS-exclusive Procaster, ....its garbage. Buy a baitcaster w/ an aluminum frame. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted January 21, 2008 Super User Posted January 21, 2008 Daiwa procaster 6+1 $69.95 http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_51500_100001001_100000000_100001000_100-1-1 I've heard nothing but good reviews from this one and seems to last awhile as well Quote
Super User Root beer Posted January 21, 2008 Super User Posted January 21, 2008 x2 on the daiwa procaster. The tourney reel is also a good reel. I got them both. The tourney reel is beginning it's third tour of duty with no problem. ;D Quote

If you turn in a old reel that you don't use anymore ( the reel you turn in has to work ) they will give you so much off when you buy a reel. I think for a $ 80.00 reel you get $ 10.00 off. Quote

Abu round reels are workhorses. You won't be dissapointed with that one. Quote
