Two Piece spinning rods

I just got a two piece spinning rod for christmas.  I have not had a two piece rod in about 15 years and i remember the problems with the top piece flying off when casting.  I glued that one together and was wondering about doing the same to this one.  Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas about doing this?

I personally am not sure if it would negatively affect the rod in any way and I no longer use any two piece rods, but growing up thats all we used. I don't rember what kinda glue we used, but we did a lot of times use some kind to hold them together. Personally I would use it first to see if it indeed will fly apart or not, some rods won't. I used a 2 piece Shimano Compre for several years before getting some better rods. I had a few problems with the upper half loosening and flying off. I learned to just give the joints a good push together before each fishing session and any problems were gone.

I have a bunch of 4 piece fly rods and only had problems with one St. Croix rod that would fly off and down the fly line. After 3 or 4 times on the river with it, it seemed to break in and I don't have the issue any more.

I myself do not like two piece rods, they come apart and i think you give up feel in the rod. Just my two cents worth! :

Put some ferrule wax onto the male end before putting the rod together and it should help. I haven't had my 2 piece Avid come apart on me. I love that rod!

I still use a couple of two-piece rods that stay together remarkably well. But in the past I've glued rod sections together without any adverse effects. Use it before you glue it.

I don't know about losing feel. My 2 piece Avid is super sensitive, and is right up there with my IMX as my favorite rod. The IMX is of course more sensitive, but I was blown away by the Avid the first time I fished it at how sensitive it was for a 2 piece.  8-)

If you have to glue it to keep it together then either the sizing is wrong, there is some contamination on the surfaces, or you are not putting it together right.  I would not recommend gluing.

Since you have a new rod, # 2 is probably not going to be an issue.  On an older rod, clean the surfaces with a clean cloth.  You cannot do anything about # 1 so forget it.

On #3, slide the rod halves together, and as you firmly do the last push to seat the sections together, give them a little twist.  If the guides don't line up, start over.

To assemble a modern ferrule, mis-align the sections by 90 degrees and slide together. As they come snug, twist them into alignment with just a bit of force. This will "lock" the sections together. To disassemble, reverse the procedure.
