How many Spinnerbaits and Buzzbaits in your box?

Just started to get confident in my spinnerbaits again and was able to try a buzzbait for the first time.

Question is.......How many of them are necessary to have in your tacklebox or lure selection? I have two spinnerbaits. One is a double willow the other is a single colorado blade. I also have one white 1/4 ounce buzzbait. Definately going to be picking up a Cavitron.

Getting back into this sport after taking 12 years off is proving to be an expensive hobby. Probably have thrown down close to 800 dollars this year on restocking. Bait monkeys are horrid creatures.  :'(

I have 3 spinnerbaits and 2 buzzbaits and 1 terminator hybrid blade spinnerbait. i never use my buzzbaits because i never seem to catch anything when i use them. I have 2 terminator spinnerbaits and 1 stanley wedge. I also have a bunch of different skirts to change to. Crankbaits, however... thats a whole different can of worms

Well, I have a suggestion:

ONLY buy lures that are HIGHLY recommended by people you know or trust. You'll still spend plenty of dough, but maybe you can avoid owning a whole lot of stuff you will never use.

How many do you need? Well, my favoite lures are jerkbaits. I have four 3700 boxes and a few unopened packages that are four or five years old. Over the years I might have used a dozen of these lures, but only three or four in the past couple of years. That leaves forty or so that are still waiting for their first bath! My point is, just buy a couple of any one lure and see if you need another.

To answer your question directly, if you start out with a 1/2 oz white shirt, willow blade over Colorado blade and a matching spinnerbait in chartreuse, you're pretty well set. Then you're going to think you need them in both gold and silver blades, different style blades and four different sizes. The Bait Monkey's appetite cannont be satisfied!

A few....I have a White, black and chartruese spinnerbait....I have one in each color for smaller spinnerbaits for clear water and one each for larger ones in dirty water to increase the bait profile (something i learned from a Kevin Vandam dvd, it has made a difference in my number of bites).  Colorado or willowblade doesnt matter to me right now,  it hasnt seemed to make a difference to me.

I have a white and one black Buzzbut i just also ordered one each of balck and white of the Cavitron Buzzbaits just because of reading things on this site.

i have one spinnerbait..chart, red hook single gold willow...one buzzbait...it is a balck TD buzzbait with gold prop...i think it sucks...dosent seemt o have good action and i havent caught crap on it

I have a dozen buzz baits of various manufactures and a dozen Stanley Wedge spinner baits both are 3/8 & ½ oz.

You need at least one million spinnerbaits.

Seriously though, it depends on a lot of factors (e.g. type of water you're fishing, depth you're gonna be fishing the baits, etc.).  I probably have about 30-40 spinnerbaits, but I don't use them all that much except sometimes when I'm fishing the edges of weedbeds or sometimes in submerged trees and such.  They're also great for night fishing.

Probably a good all-around spinnerbait size (this is very generally speaking) is a 3/8 oz, white for clear water, chartreuse for stained water, black for muddy water (I prefer multi-hue skirts like white/grey or chartreuse/red, etc.).  The standard deal is willow-leaf blades for clearer water, single colorado blade for muddy water and night fishing.  There are so many variable for spinnerbaits that it's pretty ridiculous: different variations and numbers of blades, sizes, skirts, arms, etc.  That's probably one of the reasons that they're so appealing.  

You can find several articles on here for spinnerbait tactics.  One thing that IS a rule is that you need to buy a quality spinnerbait.  I have some old cheapo spinnerbaits that I used once or twice and will never use again.  It's really tough to tune them, so they're always running crooked, and they have poor skirts and dull hooks.  Not a good combination.  Terminator, Strike King and Booyah all make quality spinnerbaits.  For an decent spinnerbait it will cost you 3-5 bucks, but it's worth it.  

One last word of advice is to use a trailer hook.  I know some people don't use them and still have success, but I for one feel naked without that trailer hook.  Half of the fish I catch on a spinnerbait got themselves hooked just on the trailer hook.  

Back to your question though, how many you'll need depends on the lake where you plan on using them and the conditions there.  Read up on some of the articles on the site for which specific types would be best, then buy a couple in different sizes and colors.  If you really like them, then buy as many as you can afford.  And if you're ever feeling a little down on life, go to your favorite fishing store, buy a bunch of lures, and you'll feel better in no time  ;D

I like spinnerbaiting ( that 's a new one, is there actually something I don 't like ? .... yup, soft plastics ), as usual, Raul 's got a bunch of them in various sizes ( 100+ ), blade configurations and weights for different applications, however I must say that the most versatile weight is 3/8 oz for most applications, white, white/chartreuse & black are the ones I fish the most, so if you are going to purchase spinnerbaits I suggest 3/8 oz in those colors, some with gold blades, some with silver blades and you 'll cover almost everything.

Buzzbaits are another story, I have absolutely no confidence in buzzbaits, they seldomly produce for me, no wonder why I only have a couple of buzzbaits.

About 7 or 8 different spinnerbait's, there are very few situation's where I have confidence in them.  I only have 1 or 2 buzzbait's but thats because I prefer throwing a ribbit or horny toad instead, but i'm going to give the ole buzzbait another try my next outing, its been a couple of year's.

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet (I don't feel like reading all the replies)- get a couple 3/8 or 1/2oz'ers and buy some of the blades seperately- play around with them see what you like without purchasing a bunch of different baits-

Several boxes full in the office. I usually take 1/2 dozen spinnerbaits & 4 or 5 buzzbaits in the boat. These are expendable baits for me. I twist the heck out of them to make them run hard to the left or right so they bang into stumps & sticks better. Next to soft plastics & jigs, I catch the most fish on spinnerbaits. They don't have to be fancy, they just have to spin properly. JMHO.

I have probably 40 spinnerbaits and about 4-5 buzzbaits.  I am like Raul and have very little confidence in buzzbaits and hardly use them.  Spinnerbaits are a different story though.  I have them from 1/8 oz up to 1 oz.  I sometimes fish them as deep as 20 ft(3/4-1 oz) and have done well with them that deep.  Most of them are 3/8 oz and 1/2 oz with different blade configurations.  I have some 1/2 oz with willows as small as #4 on them that I like to rip over cabbage beds when the traps are not producing.  I also like Hildebrandt blades, especially their willows.

I have a dedicated setup for Spinnerbaits as they're my favorite search bait these days. They're also a consistant producer over and along weedbeds. I carry 6 white and 6 chartreuse spinners, all with red hooks. 5 of each 6 are 3/8 oz and one is a 1/2 oz. All have a combination of a willow and colorado blades. In addition in my spinnerbait box is 2 3/8 oz white spinners with a big single colorado blade.

I've given up on buzzbaits as I just don't have any confidence in them, but rather prefering to throw a Spook for topwater

I like the buzz better than the Spinner,,

Its awsome to catch bass on any top water..

But also as mentioned,, I prefer the ribbit

for top water..it rocks for me !!!

I have one of those Falcon spinnerbait boxes that holds like 30 spinnerbaits which is beyond full. Buzzbaits do not work well for me and even though I have like 50 of them the only one that works is an old white lunker lure one I found in a tree that squeels so bad it hurts your ears. While I use everything from a single bladed 1/8oz to a 6 bladed 1oz (personal prototype) you only really need a few to start with. Black w/blade single colorado for night and muddy water, white/chart front silver colorado and rear gold willow, and finally whitish with single or double silver willows. Depending upon the water depth and current you could use either 3/8 or 1/2oz baits. Others may disagree but I like thinner wire on spinnerbaits for the vibration as it works better for me. If you are just starting out Booyah makes a decent bait but I would stat away from the $1 Wallymart baits. If you have anymore specific questions about them just ask as I have made 100's of spinnerbaits.

I hate buzzbaits! Can't get a bite on one. Spinnerbaits, now those i love. I carry about 20 of them, assembled by me, in the blade combos that work for me. I can't even remember the last time i bought a spnrb8.

i carry around 65 or 70 spinnerbaits in the boat at all times and maybe around 5 buzzbaits. spinnerbaits are just a weapon of choice for me right now.
