Super User roadwarrior Posted September 28, 2007 Super User Posted September 28, 2007 With cooler temperatures, the big bite is on in the Mid South. In Rhode Island, too! 8-) These are the lures that are working for me right now: 1/2 oz Micro Munch Jig (black) with a GYCB Kreature as the trailer (black w/ blue flakes) Cavitron Buzzbait (black on black) GYCB Senko Swimbait GYCB Kreature fished like a spinnerbait (steady retrieve with an occasional twitch) 6-8" Storm Swimbaits (Mattlures Baby Bass, too, but I'm out) There is no reason Fat Ika, 6" Senkos and Micro Munch Tackle El Gordo or Mizmo tubes shouldn't work, I'm just not fishing these soft plastics right now because I am focused on the jig. For topwater, this might be the best time of year to fish the LC Sammy and Zara Spook. And of course, my favorite class of lures: jerkbaits! When I have the opportunity, this will be my main focus. I just don't like fishing my favorite lures from shore, they don't always make it back. : Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 not last time but the time before that it was a beaver bite and crank bite. I'm hopping that since cooler weather has moved in I can catch more on spinnerbaits, cranks, and some topwater again. Going sunday hopefully. Quote
slomoe Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Haven't been out since last tues. for a little while on a tough lake. and the only fish I had was on one of jerkbaits that came as extras with my order. I've never fished a jerkbait until then and the action looked awsome. I think i'll be using them this weekend at a different spot. Quote
Super User Raul Posted September 28, 2007 Super User Posted September 28, 2007 With the same stuff I 've been catching them since early April RW. , cooler air temps don 't mean nuthin here except you get less roasted, the water temp is in the 80 's and it 's going to keep that way until mid Dec when it drops to the high 60 's - low 70 's ( yeh, the middle of the "winter" ). However it 's more crankbait & spinnerbait time than soft plastics time, with all the rainfall since early May the lakes are still quite murky. Quote
mattm Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Baby bush bugs, beavers and tube craws probably account for 90% of my fish in the last month. I'm not a big color guy at all, but it seems like i've been doing 3X's better with green pumpkin than watermelon the last month. I almost always start with watermelon, and usually never switch. I can think of three times lately that i've fished watermelon for 1-3 hours then switched to green pumpkin and started catching fish. Very wierd considering how close the two colors are. Quote
Trent, B Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 I been catchin alot on just a regular zoom worm t-rigged Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted September 28, 2007 Super User Posted September 28, 2007 For me here in WNY, with water temps still in the low 70's/high 60's the fall "bite" is not on yet. Standard summer patterns are still producing. Water on my home lake is Low, with a capital "L", lowest level in 25+ years. Fish are still found in the weeds both shallow edge, deep edge in 8-10 FOW, and pockets/holes in between , it's just now that 8-10' depth is in some spots 50 yards from where it is in a "normal" year. They are still under the docks that have water under them, a few docks have been super this time of year, with many docks on dry land, the fish stack up on them. Main lake points are holding fish, as they always do. Creeks are dry, laydowns out of the water. Well...lol......lures that are working: 1/2 oz black/blue jig w/ craw trailer, pitched around the edges of those "few docks" that hold fish, or dragged slowly around the points. Green pumpkin beaver t-rigged w/ 1/2 oz tungsten sinker, pitched in the weeds. 5" green pumpkin senko skipped way up under the docks, and over the weeds. Soon (I hope) the spinnerbait, crankbait, and top water bite picks up. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Yesterday, I think we could have caught them on a cigarette butt they were so easy! It was like the spawn, fantastic. we used everything from an assortment of *** plastics, Sticks, slim sticks, beavers and the 7" ribbontail. we also hsad luck with a few different jigs, topwaters (j-bug, spook) and a strike king s/b (wht/gold) This morning it was another story all together. The fish hadn't shut off completely but were much more tight lipped than yesterday. Seems they were quite picky in what the wanted, the *** sticks worked of course but the only other plastic I had luck with was the beavers. Dirk threw a tube for 2 fish also but the beavers were the highliner with 5 fish. Soon, within the next month we will be jigging and jigging only. There will be a crankbait stage in between there where we always have great luck with the old silver/blue/orange risto rap. Fall is around the corner,....leaves are changing in RI Quote

Whats been working for me is the baby flukes, spinnerbaits bumped off of stuff, 5" trick sticks, and in the ponds.....suprisingly a 3" trick stick (at least for my wife and son). What lake ya fishing man? Quote

Super User Catt Posted September 29, 2007 Super User Posted September 29, 2007 A couple trips ago while at the bend I tried some thing different; Texas Rigged a Stanley Bull Ribbit with a 3/16 oz weight, it results weren't that impressive only four bass. All in the 3 ½ to 4 lb range A few of my buddies have put them to the test as well pulling off a Dog Fight win last weekend with 5 bass 27.11 lbs. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted September 29, 2007 Super User Posted September 29, 2007 Tubes have been working pretty well too Same here...we've been "killing" them on the same lure for a few weeks now Quote
ABC123 Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 Things I'm catching with, within the last 2 weeks: 4 1/2 inch Spooks, 4" Powerbait pumpkin tubes, 7" pumpkin Powerworms T-rigged. The latter 2 weighted with various sized bullet weights strung free on line to hug the hook. Things I'm not catching with: Traps, cranks, Hula popers. Been working both dropoffs and shore. I nailed a very large (for my area) LMB last night on the T-rigged Powerworm on a 10 down to 18 foot dropoff. The sun was in and out of the clouds, the wind was brisk, and it was in the upper 50's. A front was comming, as T-storms rolled through about 4 hours later. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted September 29, 2007 Super User Posted September 29, 2007 Nothing Skunked out twice now.I completely lost the bass...going to a different part of the lake now tomorrow. Quote

Super User FishTank Posted September 30, 2007 Super User Posted September 30, 2007 I have been killing them on the Fat Ika in Green Pumpkin black flake. I hooked a nice 5lb Largemouth and 4 other smaller ones in about an hour on the same Ika. I have been trying other lures and baits but the Ika is my go to bait for now. Quote
flippin Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 beavers ,cranks, shad raps is what worked for me today Quote
blade Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 would have to say spinnerbaits, we won a club tourny here on ky lake yesterday with 5 fish weighing 21 pounds 15 ounces and caught em all on the blade. Quote

tritz18 Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Texas rigged 5 inch senkos and some crank baits Quote
bassmaster8100 Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Zoom soft plastic lizards and finesse worms, fishing them texas rigged, carolina rigged and shakey head. Deep diving crankbaits, the Norman DD18, DD22, the Rapala DT series, and the Lucky Craft Pointers. The Bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap particually in 1/2 ounce size in blue/black. Quote
Super User Tin Posted October 1, 2007 Super User Posted October 1, 2007 Its either one of two things. Find the lilly pads ( not the little silver dollar ones the big ones that are thick) and throw a swimming jig through them or on top of them. Or just find some green coontail in 8-10' of aqua and throw a 4" watermelon gold senko. Real simple and a real lot of fish. Quote
Davis Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 Threw some Ikas in my dads pond last night. I was only there for an hour if that. But I did get three smaller bass and had a nice one on but he got off. They were hammering the Fat Ika in Green pumpkin black flake though. I mean just slamming it. Felt good to feel hits like that again. Quote
