NHfroggin Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 What knot works the best? i always have tied the clinch knot. Do you use different knots for tying different things? thanks Bassmaster6 Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 I use a palomar knot to tie everything. When tied with braid it'll straighten the hook or bring that submerged log to the boat... Just me Quote

I like it because it's easy I I can tie on a bait while night fishing without turning on a light. I can easily bend a owner 2X hook with 50# braid with this knot Quote
Masshole Mike Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 +2. i used to use a trilene knot a lot, but when i started using braid and fluoro it didn't seem to hold as well so i switched to a palomar and it's all i use now. i also use a uni-uni knot when tying braid to a mono or fluoro backing. Super User roadwarrior Posted January 14, 2008 Super User Posted January 14, 2008 I like tying a variety of knots, especially for specific applications, but if you are just looking for a knot to use for terminal tackle, the Palomer Knot is quick, simple and secure: http://www.animatedknots.com/palomar/index.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 14, 2008 Super User Posted January 14, 2008 Palomar knot for every thing Once up on a time I could tie it at night without glasses :'( Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Uni for everything, uni to uni for leaders. Never had one fail, and although the palomar is probably a little stronger, I never have my drag set anywhere near the breaking strength of my line, so losing a fish isn't an issue. I like the versatility of the Uni - you can cinch it all the way down or leave a little loop in it for topwaters. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Improved Clinch or Palomar. The clinch I can do without looking so that one is used often,...it's just a comfort level/speed thing. Jigs always get a palomar because they are easy to get back through the loop w/o much finagling and I know it's a better knot. Lazy? Sure, lol. Quote

Losing a fish is NOT an issue. Like Toyko_Tony, my drag is set where I will not lose a fish, but the "breaking point" does come into play when we get hung-up. 8-) Quote
JKLOCK Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 San Diego Jam knot for everything except Braid. For braid I use the double uni. http://www.saltwatersportsman.com/article.jsp?ID=21012831 http://powerpro.com/using/uni.asp SeniorBasser Quote
