ghost Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 You guys who own either reel, do you still use them? I have a C3 4601 that I bought from Cabelas back in 2005. This reel still works great, but since it's old school in design, high profile; low ipt, just wondering if I should keep it or sell it. This is the older C3 w/ 2 centrifugal brakes, instead of the newer model w/ 6 brakes. But it's thumb shift instead on the side of the reel. Put the money to a new baitcast reel. I've been casting w/ it in the front yard & it casts a 1/2 oz practic plug a long ways w/o much of a back lash. I'm at a dilemma, since it casts great w/ no problems. But I can get a newer reel..... Ballpark Frank Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 I say use it. I have only recently started using LP, but I have a love for the rounds. On my regular set of rods, 3 have LPs and 4 have rounds. My favorite(current, it changes weekly) out of the whole bunch is a 4600C4 Mag that I have on a St.Croix 2-piece Premier that lives in my car as the travel rod. Something about the narrow spool enables me to cast farther and control better, I use almost no cast control knob and no mags. It could also be a comfort zone. Quote
Super User .RM. Posted January 15, 2008 Super User Posted January 15, 2008 I had 7 of the 4601's great reels wish I still had them, but the guide I sold them to is getting all kinds of great fish on them. Tight Lines!! Quote
4pwr Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 I am a ABU round reel fan. I have no idea if they are the best or not. All I know is they cast just fine and are all around good reels. I would keep the reel and upgrade the rod. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted January 15, 2008 Super User Posted January 15, 2008 keep um i have c-3,s c-4,s and c-5,s and like others have siad that narrow spool has a control about it thats so predictable and reliable .besides i notice some abu round reels are being made in china now :) the BXR to be exact i still have 4 each NIB of the 4600,s and i use originals the most even though i have revos also i just LOVE round garcia,s Quote
Super User Micro Posted January 16, 2008 Super User Posted January 16, 2008 Up until a few months ago, I owned 6 C4s (5 5600 and 1 6500). I've since sold 3 of the 5600s. Now I'm regretting it. These reels are "old school." They are heavy. But they perform very well. They are smooth, and seem to get smoother with age. Mine were/are the 2-brake versions also. They are exceptionally well built. I've switched over to LP reels (Revos and Curados) and a couple of round EXT Pros (also Abu Garcia). I don't fish much with my C4s anymore. But I took them apart this weekend and cleaned and lubed them and began thinking about taking them out again. They are really good reels. I wouldn't sell it. That's a recipe for regret. You're not going to get much for it anyway. Keep it and use it, or keep it and buy another reel. One day you're going to feel a bit nostalgic and want to use it again. Quote
