This is a question to all who have used either the 100 models, or the 200 models.

I Own the 100 DSV and love everything about it.  I like the size of it and being able to palm it. I plan on buying another before the rebate program ends.

so my question is -

Is it worth getting the 200 model over the 100 since the 200 has features like

-Aluminum Handle Side Sideplate

-PV Power Paddles

-1/4 Turn Easy Access Sideplate

-High Efficiency Gearing (HEG)

-Magnumlite Spool (Which only the 100 DSV doesn't have)

-the 2.4oz difference.

So basically, is it worth the extra size to have those features, or should I just stick with what I know and like.

I'll be throwing it with a 7' MH rod.

Thanks

I have 2 200 DHSVs and they are awesome reels.  Better than 100 D?  I dunno, but they were worth every penny.

I curse the day i picked the 201 over the 101, Unless you need it for any techniques that require a greater line capacity i would just stick with the 100.

Or you might compare the Citica 100DSV... it's basically the same reel as the CU100DSV and $80 cheaper and still qualifies for a rebate.  Do a search on it in this section, you might be surprised at what you learn.

the 2.4oz difference.

that alone is huge, and IMO makes the 100DSV's worth having, regardless of the other features.

I've owned three 201s cuz they fit the type of fishing that I do. The cal delta holds a variety of gamefish that calls for higher capacity line and the HEG reels. I'm able to target LM, stripers & salmon using these reels.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that it depends on what applications you'll be using the reel for and if the bigger size fits your needs. Taking advantage of the rebate program is a smart thing to do since it's a once in a blue moon thing. I know I'm waiting for my rebate check for my 301.

Cheers!

I have the 100 and had the 200.  I ended up trading the 200 in for another 100, because I didn't like how big it was.  It just wasn't comfortable to fish with, so in my opinion, if it's uncomfortable to fish with all those other extras aren't worth it.

I own five 200s and one 100.  The only reason why I bought the 100 is because it is the only size they offer the 6:1 (or close to that) gear ratio.  If they made all three gear ratios in the 200 or 100 I think I would be a happy camper.  I just don't like going from the 200 to the 100 because the smaller reel feels weird at first.

I need 3 of the 7:1 for my bottom bouncing stuff and 2 of the 5:1 for cranking applications.  If you don't care about the gear ratios I would say buy the same size reel as your other one.

Isnt it amazing how todays modern male feels 2.4 ounces is such a major deal!  John Wayne and ours Dads would be shocked.

Man, if you had given John Wayne a six-gun that was 2.4 oz lighter, he would have been elated when it came time to slap leather. LOL  B)

2.4oz all day long adds up but its really no that much.  Put it on the same scale as a baitcaster from 10 years ago then you can see a big difference.  I like the 200dhsv  just in case you get ahold of that elusive Hog.  It depends more on what you are going to use it for 100's for finesse, jerks and cranks and 200's for tops/wakes and spinners.

Do you think the HEG gearing is a must have?  I hear on other forums that it is almighty.

I agree with  reconchild that over a whole day of fishing, 2.4oz can make a huge difference.

I have a citica 200 and after using the curado 100, I dred it.  The weight and the size just feels akward.

Well I think since I already have the citica 200, i'll just stick with the curado 100.  Thanks for your help guys, I appreciate it as always.

Well Im looking at a can of peas.  Its 15 oz.  I would guess 2.4oz. of peas out of that can would be what, 25 peas?  Im fat, sickly and most of all lazy and I cant see how the 2.4oz. is anything.  Especially when the positives are HEG gearing and a more solid reel.

I wouldn't say it's a must but it helps in certain applications and/or conditions. For instance, having the ability to pick up slack quickly to get a good hookset on a jig fish and pull 'em out of the rockpiles or vegetation is a must in my book esp. if you're in big fish territory.

As I said previously, I target the other species in the delta system and having HEG allows me to be able to react to sudden burst when the fish swims towards me or if I'm steering the fish away from structure. I've lost some big fish in the past before upgrading to reels w/ HEG cuz I couldn't keep pressure on 'em and I certainly don't like loosing fish to snags.

I do not have big hands and would say that they are more suited for 100 size reels but the bigger size and added weight of the 200's is tolerable for me. If the 100's suits you then by all means. You may also look into other reel manufacturers that provide the curado 200 features that you mentioned but in a smaller package.

Cheers!
