nicmic Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 i see articles about "bobber stops". what exactly is a bobber stop? is it a small spit shot placed before or after a bobber to set the bobber to a certain depth! if not is there any place i can go to see a picture of one? thanks Quote
Guest muddy Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Cabelas has a good picure of them. Basically they are a small bit of yarn that goes onto your line, usally over a mall bit of tube . You tighten the yarn onto your mono a few feet up, then you slip a small little bead ( all this comes in a kit) and then you put your boober on then split shot and hook. Then when you cast you can keep it all up close so youre not trying to lob a clothesline out. When the bobber his the water the bait sinks to the desired depth and the yarn(Which does not hinder the cast at all) knot cincehs the little bead and it cant go through the bobber. So you can have like 15 feet from the bobber to the bait when fiahin , but only a few inches during the cast. Heres a link to a kit in Cabelas http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/standard-pod-wrapped.jsp?id=0000025&navCount=1&parentId=cat20289&masterpathid=&navAction=push&cmCat=MainCatcat20166-cat20289&parentType=index&indexId=cat20289&rid= Quote
gatrboy53 Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 i guess it depends on what your using it for. the ones i use are a small football shaped piece of rubber that has a small hole thru it w/ a double up wire createing a loop in the wire.you run your line thru the loop and then pull the tag end thru the hole in the rubber stop which threads it onto your line.you then put on your weight and hook and place the stop where you want the weight to stop at. for t-rig you can sinch it right down on top of weight ,for c-rig you can slide it up line .i use them instead of pegging my weight. Guest muddy Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Yeah I used to notice the Linders on Infisherman always used those wire stops, I never used them but they are very popular this way with walley live baiters Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Nic, in case you were not familiar with them these stops are for slip bobbers These bobbers don't attach, the have a hole all the way through it. The bobber stop is adjustable to make fishing at different depths easier. I was a total dummy the first time I tried to use these. The yarn /string Muddy described is on a plastic tube. You slide your bare line through the tube - give yourself some length to be safe. Then you slide the yarn off of the plastic up the line in the direction of the rod. You pull the plastic off the line and discard the plastic. You then pull the 2 ends of the yarn fairly tight and slide the plastic bead on, then bobber & or split shot then tie your hook. Even though you have pulled the string tight your are still able to "adjust" it up and down the line it can even wind up onto your reel spool. After the first time you use it or even before I suggest trimming off the excess string as it can grab you rod eyelets. I've never used those rubber slide on ones that Gatrboy describes. In fact I didn't know what they were the first time and threw them away to buy the string type! I couldn't figure out how to get them on the line lol some days I just don't get it! lol Hey Gatr do those rubber type ones ever get hung up on your rod guides? Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Wow fish-fighting-illini - thanks for that explanation. I have some of those bobber stops and have never used them because I couldn't figure out what the deal was. That makes sense - you take the tube off 8-) I actually looked online today for an explanation on how to use them and couldn't find one. I guess it's assumed that you know how. Quote
Guest muddy Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 You run the tag end of the line through the tube, you run the line to the depth you want the bait to be under the slip float. Take the Yarn and slid it off the tube onto the line, pull the knot and trim it close as possible with a small scissors. Pull the tbe off, slide the bead on, making sure the yarn will hold the bead in place. Slide the boober on , put your terminal tackle on and you are ready to go. It's been a long time since I used them, but they work great and do not effect either the reel or guides during the cast Quote
gatrboy53 Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 ffi,ive never used one that would be so far up to go into the eye. i use them on t-rig and flippin if i want the bullet weight to stay up against the head of the plastic. i also use them as a quik c-rig stop, but then its only 2-3' up the line.when flippin i want the weight to be tight against the bait but i want it to seperate on hookset so the fish doesnt have any leverage on the hook.ive had the same one on my flippin stick all yr. and it still holds good.but im usin it on 50# braid .ive never used the yarn deal.you can get the rubbr stops at wally world 5 for a buck+.i dont like pegs i feel it pinches the line and will weaken it and could lose a big fish or a money fish. Super User cart7t Posted October 4, 2007 Super User Posted October 4, 2007 ...Hey Gatr do those rubber type ones ever get hung up on your rod guides? I use them for crappie fishing and I've never had a problem with them getting fouled up with the guides. Fairly easy to attach too. Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Wow fish-fighting-illini - thanks for that explanation. That makes sense - you take the tube off 8-)I actually looked online today for an explanation on how to use them and couldn't find one. I guess it's assumed that you know how. I used to get in a hurry and would put the string then bobber then tie the hook. I kept having to cut the stupid tube off with a knife until I learned to take the tube off before bobber and tying. Sometimes it takes me a whil but I always get there. Quote
Guest muddy Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 AH DON'T FEEL TOO BAD I COULDN'T EVEN FIGURE OUT THE RUBBER/WIRE THINGYS THATS WHY I WENT TO THE TUBE/YARN PRODUCT Quote
Guest avid Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 I use these without the bead. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&partNumber=44430&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults they slip through the guides very well. They also double as sinker stops. You can "peg" your weight to the bait with them. Very handy little do-dads. I like these because they are the simplest to apply. Just run the line through the loop and pull the rubber stopper off the ring onto the line. Takes virtually no time at all. have fun and good luck. Quote
