Bassnajr Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Hey all... I have been scanning the threads for rod information. I have also come to realize that our forum has guys/gals from all walks of life and all economic backgrounds, so that being said here are my specific rod questions: 1. What are some of the best rods from say $25.00 to $120.00?? I think this covers a wide range, from Walmart to BPS. 2. How is the quality of the rods sold by BPS? What are the better rods in their arsenal? Thanks in advance!!! bassnajr Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 9, 2008 Super User Posted January 9, 2008 Well, right now the rod line that stands head and shoulders above the crowd is the St. Croix Avid. If you can find the rod you want, some of our members (Fish Tank?) picked a couple up for $65. Anything around $100 would be a great deal! Quote

Super User Tin Posted January 9, 2008 Super User Posted January 9, 2008 Alan, I'll let you mess around with some of my stuff if you want. As far as rods go, either Castaway, All Star, and since no one up here sell's Avids, Croix's premier line, you can find some for $75 Reels- Abu's Max series casting reels for under $80 are an absolute steal, me along with a few others on the board are amazed with the Pro Max. For spinning reels, either Abu 700 and 800 series Cardinals, or Shimano Symetre's. Quote
.Paxamus. Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I have a bunch of Allstar classic series rods from Academy. Good rod for around 50 bucks. I also have the spinning rod in it, put fluorocarbon on it and you can feel real good with it. I also have a fenwick that I got free with a Revo that I bought at the Classic and I love it. I have to second Tin on the Promax I got one from *** and love it. Quote
ILfisherman Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Ummmm.. BPS Graphite Series IM6 casting rod- you can find it on sale sometimes for $19.99 BPS Crankin' Stick- on sale now for like $34 but I got it earlier in the week for $26.50...GREAT rod I won't buy anything else right now other than a BPS rod. They are built w/ quality in mind and have fantastic sensitivity for the price. Quote

Thefishy1 Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Quote AllStar: IM 10 ( 100 bucks) Instinct (60 Bucks) X2 Also the Browning Midas (2007 version) is on sale at BPS for 100 bucks. This is a great rod for the money light, sensitive, and easy on the wallet. Quote
Ryan_Johnson Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 All models of Falcons are nice rods, each series seams to be worth the extra money. I really like my Cara series rods and you can find them on sale for $120. Daiwa light and tough rods are a great value. The new Tierra series feel nice, but havent' used one. I grew up using Fenwicks, and I still have a couple of GT series that have lasted 10+ years. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted January 10, 2008 Super User Posted January 10, 2008 Another one for All Star rods. Incredible rods for the money. Team All Stars - $100 ASR series - $100 American Classics - $75 - 80. As for BPS rods, the Extreme and Bionic Blade rods are good as are the Crankin sticks. Wait for Sales! Pinnacle reels are a good value as are the Daiwa Advantage TDA150 series. Best bet on the TDA's is to check the forums or Ebay. The BPS Extreme reels are great, wait for sales! Quote
flippincrazy Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Like many have said BPS extreme rods. 99.99, but go on sale often for 69.99. If they are on sale online, but not at the store say something and they will give you the online deal. These are truly great rods for the money. Quote
BNKrust Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I second the Falcons. Love my new Cara. BPS and Academy have the 2007 Caras on sale for $99 right now. Hard to beat at that price. Same with the Team All-Stars. Also $99 right now. Quote
Super User Micro Posted January 10, 2008 Super User Posted January 10, 2008 Fenwick makes great rods. The Fenwick HMG is a very sensitive and tough rods. About $120. The Fenwick HMX is another great rod. Also very sensitive, and very tough. My favorites, though, is also All Star. Thse are some of the best rods going, and alos the some of the toughest. I own several IM10s and several American Classics. The IM10s are great and run about $100. The American Classics are just a little (almost unnoticable) less sentsitive, but are extremely tough. On top of that, they are the prettiest in the line-up. These are my favorites. They run $90 or less. Quote
