I have no experience with the PT spinning reels, but I do have one of the ones that cost about $100, maybe a bit more, and it is my least favorite reel. It is not nearly as smooth as any of the other similarly priced or lower reels that I have experience with, like Symetres or Cabelas Prodigies (Daiwa).  I seem to feel every tooth in the gear set on the Quantum and avoid it unless I don't have anything other to use.

With a brand new linep of reels from Shimano, I would certainly take a serious look at them before buying.

I can say that the Quantum PT reels are awsome. I have owned 2 energys and a catalyst and liked them all. I know alot of people bash Quantum and I will admit from top to bottom they are not the best company. There low end reels are junk. But the PTs are awsome reels. I just wish I could get my hands on one of the new tour edition spinning reels before I buy one. The closest BPS is about 2 hours away. Long drive to just pick something up and feel how it is. But they look awsome and are lighter then all the other Quanutm PT reels. Plus they look bad *** as well. Match that on a 6'3" ML X-Fast St. Croix Avid series spinning rod and that should be an awsome all around spinning combo for the collection.

It is a very nice looking reel...............but my god the weight. Weight is the #1 reason I steer clear of Quantum spinning reels, there casting reels are also on the heavy side but I do like the Accurist and Accurist PT I have.
