jwo1124 Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 I was in Dick's about a few hours ago, picked up siome new baits, and I saw these reels named Cadillac that are put out by Quantum. I'm just wondering if anyone has tried these? I am in the market for a couple new reels, and at $70, they are priced well for my budget, Probably pick up 2-4 of them by the spring if they are worth it. They are 6.3:1, I'm not really a gear head, so can someone explain if this is a good ratio for worms, plastics, jig, and spinners, buzz, topwater, jerkbaits? I heard that you want a 5.1:1 for cranks...but the whole ratio thing is still new and unfamiliar to me. Quote
joshmb1999 Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 you may already know this but someone who reads it may not. the gear ratio is the number of times that the spool turns per handle turn. So if you have a gear ratio of 6.2:1 then for every 1 turn of the handle the spool goes completely around 6.2 times. Obviously the greater the ratio the faster the reel is able to retrieve. Quote
Super User .RM. Posted January 8, 2008 Super User Posted January 8, 2008 Because it isn't part of the "Quantum® Arsenal", I would imagine they are a Ducks (Dick's) house brand, made exclusively for Ducks. This would be like the new Daiwa® Pro made exclusively for BPS. Should work for the baits you mention, as for cranks the gear ratio depends mostly on how big and deep your cranking. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!! Quote
jwo1124 Posted January 8, 2008 Author Posted January 8, 2008 So Reel Mech, you are saying they are worth buying and will most likely be a quality reel??? Quote
Super User .RM. Posted January 8, 2008 Super User Posted January 8, 2008 So Reel Mech, you are saying they are worth buying and will most likely be a quality reel??? What I said was the reels GR will work for the baits you listed, and 5.1:1 GR isn't necessarily just a crankin GR, it depends on the lure size and depth your working you could need a 3.8:1 or even a 4.5:1..... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!! Quote
Cburgerjr35 Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 are you sure they wasn't called "Escalade" ? Quote
HomersTomaco Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 they will make excellent paperweights Quote
jwo1124 Posted January 8, 2008 Author Posted January 8, 2008 OH $H!T, they were called Escalade...not Cadillac. I guess my sub conscious F'D me on that one. Quote
Randall Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 I have the burner version of the Escalade. Good reel for the money. I caught it on sale for around $60. Quote
