Super User eyedabassman Posted January 5, 2008 Super User Posted January 5, 2008 I will be out to pick up a new baitcaster this spring. Some of the baitcasters have a flippin switch, so what do you guys think about the need for a flippin switch? What are the pro's and con's to having it or not having it? :-? :-? :-? Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 5, 2008 Super User Posted January 5, 2008 Not Simplicity, less moving parts less things to go wrong Quote
Randall Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 I love reels with flipping switches but it is always the first thing to break on my reels. They usually last six months to a year with almost everyday use unless you do something that breaks it. I just learned to fix them myself and keep a couple of extra parts around so I have the part when it breaks. They allow you to start the retrieve or hookset faster or easier since the reel is engaged once you let off the thumbbar. Quote
Super User Raul Posted January 5, 2008 Super User Posted January 5, 2008 I flip a lot, my old Abus have a flipping switch feature that I forget the reel has 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of the time. Quote
The Next KVD Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 They are worthless pieces of junk. If your flipping and all of a sudden find urself needing to make a quick cast to a bass breaking the surface u'll usually be too excited to switch the off and then u make a cast and it grinds inside and really hurts the reel. There is no reason to have one of these. Quote

warmer Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 careful what you say mr kvd, you wouldnt want to alienate future sponsors. Quote
dale Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 What Raul said and the .000001 time I do remember it only cause I hit it by mistake. Dale Quote
Super User cart7t Posted January 5, 2008 Super User Posted January 5, 2008 Used them for years. Never had a failure with one either but then again, I don't flip alot. They're alot more useful for pitching rather than flipping. Quote
Super User Sam Posted January 5, 2008 Super User Posted January 5, 2008 Ditto what Catt said. The less parts the less that can break. I think this is another gimmick to sell their reels. Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted January 6, 2008 Super User Posted January 6, 2008 The only time I'd ever use a flippin' switch is fishing bottom bouncers, weight forward spinners, and other rigs for walleye. Quote
Black Bass Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 I like them. I just ordered three more KVD Signature reels from BPS at $69/each that have the flippin switch. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted January 6, 2008 Super User Posted January 6, 2008 I never use them. Don't want it if I have the choice. Quote
