I will be out to pick up a new baitcaster this spring. Some of the baitcasters have a flippin switch, so what do you guys think about the need for a flippin switch? What are the pro's and con's to having it or not having it? :-? :-? :-?

Simplicity, less moving parts less things to go wrong  ;)

I love reels with flipping switches but it is always the first thing to break on my reels. They usually last six months to a year with almost everyday use unless you do something that breaks it. I just learned to fix them myself and keep a couple of extra parts around so I have the part when it breaks. They allow you to start the retrieve or hookset faster or easier since the reel is engaged once you let off the thumbbar.

I flip a lot, my old Abus have a flipping switch feature that I forget the reel has 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of the time.

They are worthless pieces of junk.  If your flipping and all of a sudden find urself needing to make a quick cast to a bass breaking the surface u'll usually be too excited to switch the off and then u make a cast and it grinds inside and really hurts the reel. There is no reason to have one of these.

Used them for years.  Never had a failure with one either but then again, I don't flip alot.  They're alot more useful for pitching rather than flipping.

Ditto what Catt said.

The less parts the less that can break.

I think this is another gimmick to sell their reels.
