Big T Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 I have been wanting to try a short pistol grip but did not want to spend a fortune in case if I did not like it. I found this was one on clearance a thought I would share it for those hwo like this style of rods. I am going to try it and if I like it then I will move up to a more expensive one. Anyway here is the link. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_98476_100002006_100000000_100002000_100-2-6 Big T Quote
Super User cart7t Posted January 1, 2008 Super User Posted January 1, 2008 I still have a pair of original LR lightning rod pistol grips. My wife uses them as her rods. Over 20 years later and those are still very light and sensitive rods. Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted January 1, 2008 Super User Posted January 1, 2008 I have two in the garage. Hard to beat for that price. I think I paid $30.00 for mine at Wally World 10 years ago. Quote
Big T Posted January 1, 2008 Author Posted January 1, 2008 I ordered one the shipping was going to be $4.95 on the rod alone, so I ordered a couple of lures and paid the same amount for shipping on the total order. I think this style might suit my needs for fishing the NE Cape Fear river, lots of overhangs and small creek oxbows. Longer rods are too cumbersome. Big T Quote
Triton9 Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 i had the same idea to get a cheap pistol grip rod, i got myself a berkley lightning rod, great rod for the money Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted January 1, 2008 Super User Posted January 1, 2008 at the very least i would get a bass pro tourney special when they go on sale for $29.99 Quote
Ballpark Frank Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 I have 2 of them(with AG 2005LP on them) and love them. They go with me on every fishing trip. I fish from a kayak alot, and love a runt rod. My accuracy is much better than with any of my other rods, but distance does suffer a little. One of them usually stays in my car with a small tackle box for when I might want to pull over and fish. Quote
ABC123 Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 Wal-Mart was the only store open tonight when I went uptown to get something. I wandered through the fishing section and found they have quite a few different rods that are pistol grip. $10-$40. The rod you posted in the link is a pretty good deal too. I think the IM-6 is the older model, but none the less, quite a bit of rod for $13. Becareful not to get too cheesy of a rod, the rod might fail before you get enough time with it to see if you like the style. That happened to me when I bought a cheap UL setup to see what all the fuss was about using UL rods for panfishing. Quote
Big T Posted January 2, 2008 Author Posted January 2, 2008 I think my post was a little misunderstood. My intention was to bring light to the low price of the Lightning Rod. I have heard good reviews about them. If I like this style of rod then I am going to step up to either an All Star, Fenwick HMG, or a St. Croix. Big T Quote
