Joel W Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Those of you that have used P Line CX or CXX, could you let me know what you think of it pros and cons. Thanks... As Ever, skillet Heard nothing but really good things about P Line. So much in so that all my Spinning setups this year will be P Line CXXX which is a co-polymer rather then their mono offerings which I believe is what CX & CXX is. Quote
JigNBig Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 P-line CX is all i use on spinning reels. It is a fluorocarbon coated line so it sinks after about 30 seconds. It is tough line though. I have caught 6-7 lb bass on this 8lb line. I use it in 8lb for dropshotting (I cast and also drop), light texas rigs (3/16 and lower weight sinkers). And I use 10lb when using light shallow crankbaits around cover. Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted December 30, 2007 Super User Posted December 30, 2007 I like all the P- lines but I tryed the Gamma line last year and now that is going to be on all my reels. I am not putting down the P-line but apples to apples Gamma has my vote, just try some and you may change as I did. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 30, 2007 Super User Posted December 30, 2007 CXX Pros: Extremely strong, highly abrasion resistant, inexpensive and readily available. Cons: Extreme memory, especially in higher pound strengths and cold weather. Floroclear Pros: Limp line, especially for a fluroarbon blend. Light refraction index matches VERY closely to pure fluorocarbon lines. Cons: Breaks easily, too easily. This line cannot be trusted. Quote
Super User Tin Posted December 30, 2007 Super User Posted December 30, 2007 If anyone gets BWB Magazine check out this months article on "The Abrasion Equation. In it they have breaking strength tests. All the lines are 10 lbs test and you will amazed at what they really break at. PLine CXX 10 lbs test broke at 22.2 pounds! Overlall it blew away the compittion in almost every test, other lines included Berkley Trilene Maxx, Stren Original, Suffix Seige, and Maxima Ultragreen. Quote
scbassin Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 I too have found the Cxx to have terrible memory problems, so much so I stop using it. What is more amazing R/W did not say Yo-Zuri ;D Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted December 30, 2007 Super User Posted December 30, 2007 have never used any of the cx cxx cxxx but i have used the floroclear and it sucks bad. its got the worst memory and it breaks wayyyy too easy. ive also used the spectrex IV line and it is pretty good...its comparable to powerpro. Shadcranker Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Well, P-Line is all I use. CXX on Baitcasters, CX on spinning tackle. CXX is stiffer with more memory (tends to coil a bit), but if you spray KVD line conditioner on the spool it is awesome. Very abrasion resistant and great strenght. CX is limp, yet still a good, abrasion resistant line. The only spinning line I've found that behaves as well is McCoy mean green, but I can't buy it here, so I just buy the CX in green. Most spinning lines coil and jump off the spool, but not the CX. I also recommend the line condiditoner here. Keeps the line softer and tends to make it cast further. SC Quote
Branuss04 Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 I prefer CX for the most part. I started out bass fishing with nothing but 12lb CX, caught my pb on it and still use it to this day. I have no cons with it. As far as the CXX, it like everyone else says, it got extreme memory and is thicker. Quote
TrickyVT1887 Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 P-Line is all I use on my spinning gear I use CXX in the mossy green color 8# its normally overrated when it comes to line strength so the 8 is more like most company's 10# but it does have memory I remedy that by slightly under filling my spool and tripping my bale by hand that seems to help prevent line twist a little bit but it's my go to line for my spinning reels. Baitcast I use izorline XXX Platinum but if im fishing really clear water i'm going with Seaguar Carbon Pro i'll probably try the INVIS-X this year though Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted December 31, 2007 Super User Posted December 31, 2007 Interesting... I REALLY like the Floroclear I've used this past year... No breakage problems that I've seen. Quote
FHUAngler Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Interesting thread...I am a faithful user of Floroclear. I absolutely LOVE that it has no memory. I use 10# test on all of my baitcasters, for everything from texas rigging to carolina rigging to jiggin to whatever, and I have NEVER broke off a fish on it. I really love this line. I have caught many BIG bass on it and it has handled them really well. The CX and CXX I have seen has WAAY too much memory. It coils up like a slinky. I see no use in using such a line. Just my 2 cents. Quote
foul hooked Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 I love CX Premium. I use 6,8,10 and 12 pounds. Low memory, very strong. It has the smallest diameter to breaking strenght ratio that I have found. Works great on spinning gear. Never have used CXX because the CX's diameter is thinner for the same breaking strenght. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 31, 2007 Super User Posted December 31, 2007 Just an observation: Isn't it interesting how so many of us have had TOTALLY different experiences with P-Line? I fished the line(s) for at least two seasons before moving on. It just amazes me that some like it so much while others hate the same line! That's crazy. Quote

Did you move up to Flouro or the more expensive Japanese lines? Quote

This is the very same,...basic common sense thinking that has formed who I am as a purchaser. It can be applied to "color", finishes" and so on also. Angler 1 has great luck on blue, no luck on red. Angler 2 can't catch on blue but kills em on red. Which do you buy? BLACK because it where you put it , when you put it there and what you make it do when it's there that are more important. Line is a little different though, it could have been put on wrong or could be a bad batch or was stored in sunlight, etc but still..... RW, you're coming around, you'll be "Low Budget" before you know it!! We're gonna have to get you a shirt Quote
skillet Posted December 31, 2007 Author Posted December 31, 2007 INTERESTING, INTERESTING H L!!! Drives me insane... As Ever, skillet BTW Jokeing. Actually, wouldn't have it any other way . Thanks for all your replies... Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 I used CXX on my spinning gear in 6# test and love it, extremely strong and plenty manageable. Based on that I bought a big spool of CXX 12# for my baitcasters and I just plain do not like it, Very strong line, but like RW said earlier, a lot of memory in the higher pound test. Quote

And this is different than any other thread discussing any other line options, rod options, reel options, lure options, etc? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 31, 2007 Super User Posted December 31, 2007 Yes. People generally have a "preference" for certain brands, but they rarely "hate"a manufacturer or find their products"totally unuseable". I suppose part of it is the nominal investment with most lines which allows anyone to experiment with a number of fishing lines. Still, we seem to have strong opinions on certain labels. I don't hate P-Line, but have found a better alternative. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted December 31, 2007 Super User Posted December 31, 2007 CX Premium (8 and 10#) Pros Solid, tough line, casts well Cons At these strengths, I didn't see what I saw as adequate abrasion resistance. Arrgghhh! Memory! If you do not like memory, stay away from this line Used on spinning reel only CXX (12 & 15#) Pros Tough to beat in the abrasion resistance department. This line is tough!! Cons As a result, this line is very thick. At this test, bass sized spinning reels isn't ideal. Memory up the ying yang too. Line is not as manageable especially with strong winds as other lines I have tried, and I have a jedi trained thumb. Used only with a bc reel. Fluroclear (8#) Jury is still out. I bought this line because I couldn't find Invizx. Pros Castibility is excellent. Memory much more manageable than the other two lines. Evolution (12#) Pros Superb Castibility Very Tough Cons Memory once again Only with a casting reel If one doesn't have a problem with memory and there is some serious memory on the mentioned lines, then those Pline lines are not ideal for you. What I say is not a complaint, but it is what I have experienced and observed. There are other lines as tough that don't suffer from memory half as bad. -ib Quote
Super User burleytog Posted January 1, 2008 Super User Posted January 1, 2008 Best priced line on the market today. The CXX is super-strong. The CX is great for spinning reels. All I'll use. Quote
