I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it depends on the manufacturer and what each one wants to tell you. For example, Power Pro has an enclosed sheet which states both actual diameter and approximate mono equivalent.

I say go to multiple websites.  I go to the store and see a list of line sizes for one brand and its like for multiple pound tests they make it look like a different version of the line.  Go to the official website and that's usually all you need to do and if they don't show it, you can check out multiple online retailers like Cabela's, Tackle Warehouse, or Bass Pro.

Welcome to the board!

On most braids there these measurements.

Length

Lb test

Diameter in metric and in english

Most of the time there is something along the lines of 30lb braid has the diameter of 8lb mono 40lb braid to 10lb mono and 50 lb braid has the diameter of 12 lb mono.

So if you're looking at a box of 40 lb fireline in the store, find one of the diameters for the fireline and match that number to a box of mono.

Or......go to this website

;D

Or go to this website for Power Pro specs, what most other braids will be as far as Lb test/ diam.

Also, I like Suffix, McCoy, Powerpro braids...in that order.

Wiimote: do you have the fishing game for wii?  is it nice?

I like Power Pro a lot, and have had zero problems with it, which is why I haven't tried any others (except when they first came out I think back in the '90s).  Others prefer Sufix, or the Samurai braid by Daiwa.  I don't think you can go wrong with any of those brands.
