KevO Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 I was at Dick's today and saw this series of rods. I found one I liked, a 6'6 med fast action spinning rod for $59.99, I think it was a miss print because all the rest were about $100. Does anyone have this rod? Should I buy it? There were a couple for this price. Also, would that be a good rod for fishing soft plastics like senko's and/or drop shotting? If not what would you recommend? Oh yeah, If anyone knows where I can get a shimano stradic 2500FH in the Nashville/ Franklin TN area for less than $100 that would be great too. Quote
Super User Tin Posted December 28, 2007 Super User Posted December 28, 2007 Save your money. Nuff said. :-X A senko rod and a drop-shot rod are two different animals imo. Definatley need 2 different rods to drop-shot correctly. If you want a senko rod in the $100 range just go with the 7' Medium Action Fast tip, St.Croix Premier. A good drop-shot rod will cost you a little more. Quote
Big T Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 That price is what I paid for mine, two summers ago. Although most people slam this series I have not had any issues with mine. However, I also have not fished with it alot. I do not care for it. I do not know what it is but it just does not click with me. I think it because of its length. It is 6'6" and I am used to 7Ft. rods. If it were me I would get a Shimano Clarus. They run $59.99 for 6'6" and $69.99 for 7ft models. Much better rod I have one that I use for everything from Bass to Redfish in the salt. This is just my observation from owning both rods. Super User FishTank Posted December 28, 2007 Super User Posted December 28, 2007 I had a Triumph and at first it seemed like a nice rod but after a long day of fishing, it was worthless. I would save your money and go a different direction. If you look hard enough, you might be able to find a St. Croix Avid on clearance. As far as the Stradic goes, sounds like a great deal. Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Hey Bass take a closer look those, St Croix's can be hard to see the model at times. I don't think the triumph's are a $100 rod ( ? ) but I could be wrong. Several people including RW ( the St Croix grand pubah of the site ) feel they are not worthy of the St X name. The Triumphs are always bright orangeish yellowish writing. The Avids are pale blue writing. If one happened to be last years Avid for $100 snap it that is one heck of a deal! Like was mentioned look for a Shimano Clarus in that price range or while at Dick's many people have had good luck with Allstars ( do a search for models). I think Cart7 (?) and several others have mentioned Allstar's ( Muddy as well I think). let us know what you pickout and later follow up with how it worksout for you. MN Basser Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 I agree on the Shimano Clarus. I own a 6'6" Clarus MH Baitcaster, and a 6'6" Clarus M Spinning. Both are great quality rods, and I really like them for the money!! Quote
KevO Posted December 28, 2007 Author Posted December 28, 2007 Well... I guess its good I didnt just buy it. They did have a few Avid's for $100, as well as some comparable All Stars. I fell in love with a G Loomis Rod but there is no way I can spend $220 on a fishin' rod. :'( As for the Clarus I will have to keep my eye out for that. My friend broke one of my cheap rods over the summer (he thought it was expensive) and said he would buy me a new one. Maybe I can get him to buy it. He's rich.... Thanks for all the help. Quote
Bob Kavanaugh Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Go back and get the Avid. Ask someone to ring it up, it'll ring up as 74.97, not 99.99 or 159.99 Trust me, I bought 2 today 8-) Quote
