i just read the post about whether the imx is worth the money over the gl3...

my best rod is a st. croix avid.  how good is this rod compared to the imx and glx?  are they even in the same league?  i'm just learning about high end fishing gear so this may sound like a dumb question but i'm just wondering.

IMO, the Avid's are a little more bulky than the IMX's. The GLX's are a step up from that, how much of a step, is a matter of opinion. When getting into the $150+ price range, IMO, a lot comes down to how much your willing to spend, and what feels good to you. I wouldn't go out and sell off your Avid for an IMX, but it might be worth it to save a few extra coins and buy an IMX for your next rod "upgrade".

joshmb1999,

FYI you now have the same technology in the NEW 08 Avid® rods, as the Legend Tournament® Bass rods.

IMPO, I wouldn't even look at an IMX or GLX, especially from a company that hasn't had any new rod technology come out of it for the last 10 years.

I have recently upgraded all my rods from various manufacturers to G Loomis and Cabelas XML.  There is one major reason I have chosen to upgrade to these two companies, warranty.  The G Loomis rods are absolutely unbelievable and whether or not they are better then another high end rod is always a matter of opinion.  What I like though, is the fact that if I break a rod because of some dumb reason, I can get it replaced for basically the cost of shipping both ways.  Also, if you look around you can find G Loomis rods for great deals.  I purchased a brand new 6'6" IMX medium-heavy rod for $103 off of eBay.  All my G Loomis rods came at costs well below what they retail for, so for me G Loomis rods are the best overall rod that can be purchased.  As far as never changing their technology...well, why fix what isn't broken  :).
